i think i could play in a pirates of the caribbean world and have it feel like a sufficiently DnD game, but that has guns, cannons and grenades/bombs, but still manages to have it's fair share of swordplay and melee combat.
Yeah pretty much blunderbuss pistols are as essential to ‘Pirate fantasy’ as parrots, eye patches and peg-legs
