The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Sometimes it is because it takes me writing a paragraph or so before I really realize I either have nothing to add or the conversation has already moved past what I have to add.

Other times, it is because I know what I have to say will likely just be ignored anyway.

Rarely, because I realize my anger/annoyance at the OP and/or the responses is pointless.

I wish we could post polls within this thread.
But I'll ask the question(s) anyway:

  • How often do you start responding to a thread and then just think twice about it and delete what you've written instead?
  • About how much on average do you write of this response before coming to this conclusion?
Routinely, especially when I realize I'm getting sucked into a "yes, it is"/"no, it isn't" endless loop.

And given how fast I type, I often have to delete whole paragraphs before that part of my brain kicks in.

Sometimes I think it would help if there was a dialog box that would pop up before every post on the forum that is a reply to someone.

You know that this won't do any good, right? Do you want to reply anyway?

- Very often, ie, almost every time I feel an urge to reply. It's become so frequent for me, in fact, that I hardly ever hit "post" anymore. (Hopefully I can soon train myself to not bother starting the reply, and save myself a lot of time!)

- 50% or more, though rarely the whole thing. I usually get partway through, then realize the fast typers and chronic arguers have already "advanced" the "conversation" by several pages.
