Someone in a chat room once told me there's an old variation of Polish that doesn't have any vowels in the words at all...
Same goes for Ottoman Turkish! People just wrote it without vowels in the Arabic script, and for a language where vowels matter a lot, that was a terrible, terrible idea.

Thankfully our language reform in the 30s saw us switch to a much more compatible script — and using the same script as the rest of Europe was a big plus.

Zeno: Damn, it hurts when I walk through that door. I'm never going to again.

Achilles: Why does it hurt?

Zeno: Because the door sill is too high and I always stub my toes. It's a hazard. Everyone like me agrees that door is a problem.

Achilles: How about that other door, with the low lintel?

Zeno: Oh, that's not a problem. I've been going through that door for forty years. I just duck without even thinking about it anymore.

Achilles: Well, you don't have to go through either door if you don't want to, but have you considered stepping a little higher when you go through that first door? Or maybe even not wearing flip-flops when you walk around this place? The structure is kind of uneven in general.

Zeno: How dare you lecture me? That door is a problem and it's gaslighting for you to suggest that it's MY FAULT.

Pineapple on a pizza isn't "niche," though. It's basic.

Pineapple on a pizza isn't "niche," though. It's basic. It's probably the most fake-bourgeois pizza topping in America...it's everywhere, from New York to Los Angeles, from 7-11 to Kroger's, from Domino's to your corner pizza shop.

But I'm in Portland, so maybe my calibration is off? Here it's not unusual to find kale, butternut squash, apple, and smoked salmon on a pizza.
Pine nuts aren't as popular as they used to be on pizza, but they were a pretty good unusual inclusion. They add a texture not often found on pizza. Pine nuts seem to be an early-oughts fad, though; I rarely see them anywhere any more.
