Yeah I think I'm done with this one.
It's one of the perennial problems with talking about D&D. You basically can't have conversations about the actual rules of the game because it's so easy to, and so expected that you will house rule things to suit your table.

"Don't like the way it's written, change the rules."

It's solid and true advice. But it makes talking about RPGs incredibly hard.

Not just D&D. That expectation has carried over to so much of the hobby that you get that response about a pretty wide variety of problems discussed in a wide range of games.
