I mean, you could continue pounding your head against the already blood-stained brick wall, or you could report and ignore the obvious troll. Your choice.

Unrelated to anything on this site, here's a fun game you can play right now, probably for a limited time.

Google various versions of terms including "lion king", "30th anniversary", and "North West". Try a lot of different words and phrasing. With a little work, you can see exactly what companies/web sites are paying for improved Google search results, and what keywords they pay for. It's so amazingly blatant. I've known Google results have been less and less useful for a long time now, but this is a case that makes it so clear. I don't think I've ever seen the algorithm so naked before.

You should probably play this game in private mode for best results. If your having trouble, try adjusting the date range under the search tools to the last day or two.

Its always entertaining when the Tech overlords make it obvious whats going on in the name of making things 'better' for us.

No one needs to invoke Cory Doctrow here, but what's wild about Google setting fire to their algorithm is that, even if they're terrified of AI eating their lunch and going for the quick buck while they can, destroying the algorithm means that everyone has no choice but to turn to AI products and there's a good chance the winner won't be theirs.

Not even leaving an old school search engine alternative to AI is a wild, self-destructive choice, like setting your village on fire before the enemy army arrives to do so. That'll show 'em, guys!

Not that I disagree with the argument but that's not a great simile there, considering how well scorched Earth strategies have actually worked in the real world. Russia did, in fact, show both Napoleon and Hitler pretty decisively, albeit with a bit of help from General Winter. I'm also pretty sure there's historical accounts of at least one medieval-period army in the Balkans disintegrating when word got around that the town they were marching toward had been evacuated and burned out of spite, leaving the troops with no prospect of loot or captured winter quarters to shelter in.

Google though, they're just being idiots. :)
