For an online discussion forum that primarily uses text as the dominant means of communication, the pure refusal of some people to bother actually reading what’s posted is utterly mind boggling.
Yeah yeah, that's annoying. But what's more annoying is when people REFUSE to read what's posted. It's especially frustrating because they're in a forum that uses almost exclusively text.

If I had a nickel for every time pineapple was throw into a thread completely out of nowhere, I'd have quite a bit at this point.

In other news, I'm increasingly tempted to upload a PDF for "sale" with no OGL license, to naughty word around and find out...

IME, accusations of "not reading" more often than not are just easy ways of bypassing an argument. IOW, Not Reading often means "Not Agreeing with Everything I Say, so, obviously you haven't understood what I said because if you actually read and understood what I said, you would obviously agree with everything I said."

In other words, it's not that someone didn't read what you wrote. It's that either what you wrote doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means, or, more often than not, the other person just doesn't agree with you.

Because, in every single case of someone "not reading" what someone wrote, it's never, EVER a case of someone agreeing with the point being made. "Oh, you agree with me? Oh, well, you obviously didn't read what I wrote" has never, ever been said.

I find that once a conversation has devolved into one side or both accusing the other of not reading, it's time to click that "unwatch" button, because, frankly, that conversation is over.

Except, of course, when someone is disagreeing with me agreeing with them.

It's Schrodinger's Pineapple - it's not on the pizza because one person refuses to see it, and it is on the pizza because one person refuses to admit they're projecting their own pineapple onto the pizza.

And it's only three pages later that we realise that the true confusion was that the participants were working from different definitions of "pineapple".

Or, in extreme cases, "pizza".
