If your line of thinking ever reaches the "only an idiot could possibly disagree with me" stage, you should just log off and go do something else for an hour. Do some stretches, maybe some light yoga. Water your houseplants. Walk to the coffee shop and get yourself a treat. Go play fetch with your...child? I don't really know how parenting works. Anything would be better than crawling even further up your own backside.

I don't see any tenement halls...

They tore them down to build the Starbucks next door...

That word. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

I'm sure someone will eventually need this meme, so I'm releasing it into the wild... :p

One of my co-workers was laid off, and I have no clue how management thinks anyone is going to pick up her work. I am now coping by browsing threads, before dive into my own work.

Story of my career for the last 15 years or so.

Look forward to the mystified "we don't know why we're less productive than last year" meetings next year.

Yeah, I've been fortunate enough to go through multiple acquisitions/going public/private, which makes this latest turn surprising, but sadly not that surprising.

The company leaned on outsourcing, and was burned. The company shipped a lot of work overseas, and was burned. The company is now seemingly giving up on a profitable segment of the business, because this co-worker is critical within that segment.

Its like begging to take 3 step's backwards, as people ramp up on the specifics, just because?

I've been trying to wrap my head around it for the last few hours, and its LIKELY just a cost management move, but like... at this point I am just waiting to see if any other shoes need to drop.

Wild.

That sucks, I'm sorry. I have survived some real bloodbaths, and while surviving is better than not, it's still pretty awful to be there for. At one company, I actually found myself carrying boxes to the elevator for practically everyone else on the floor eventually. Huge survivor's guilt before they then finally axed me.
