As soon as someone invokes things like verisimilitude or whatnot, the argument is almost never in good faith. It's nearly always about ramming preferences down the throats of everyone else.

Hussar, don't take this wrong man; I agree with you about a lot of things. But at best you're putting the cart in front of the horse here. If people are doing that its overwhelmingly likely because they are being sincere, and are so frustrated that they don't understand why people don't see the problem.

Statistically there are bound to be a few people who are disingenuous about this, but when you go in assuming that, you're almost certainly making a categorical error.

Someone needs to go do some maintenance work on the Mechanical/HVAC layer

See, that's the trick. Tell me you don't like pineapple on your pizza? Perfectly fine. No problems at all. I have zero problems with people stating their preference.

My issue is with people stating that there is something wrong with pineapple pizza, therefore, we should never have pineapple pizza available because they don't happen to like pineapple pizza.

Yeah, but even if you take them at face value, that doesn't follow.

Not everyone cares about immersion. Some people, in fact, consider it an active problem in a player. And they aren't necessarily hesitant.

So if they really want to claim something is bad, claiming it does X only matters if everyone considers X an issue. So at best they're only talking to a subset of people about it, and as noted, a subset that doesn't all come from the same place about what helps or harms.

The real problem is there is only one pizzeria in town. Otherwise, you have to buy frozen from the market or make your own. So, everybody fights over what the only pizzeria has on the menu.

Well, the issue is there isn't only one pizzeria in town; its just that some people don't feel like they want to or can drive to ones farther away. Which can be a legitimate problem, but it makes people who don't eat at the big pizzeria kind of roll their eyes at all the drama.

@Bedrockgames Pizza is a metaphor for the world's most popular roleplaying game, and the various toppings represent the different mechanics, options, and elements that people choose to put in them (feats, multiclassing, psionics, bards, dragonborn, whatever.) "Pineapple" is the analog for something divisive and controversial...something that people cannot--nay, will not, by deliberate choice--ever agree on, and will not compromise on.

For some people, pineapple absolutely cannot ever exist on any pizza ever, for anyone, and they will die on that hill....and for other people, pineapple absolutely must be on every pizza everywhere by default, and they will die on that hill. Both are ridiculous, but here we are.

I do think there are stylistic differences. There is a school of thought where it basically means keeping you in character point of view, and for much of my time online, people using it in the places where it was discussed, all understood one another. I think the problem is it got brought into broader play style disputes and like a lot of terms became a kind of football people warred over

No, that's what I'm talking about; its just that some people can pop in and out easily or handle other things without meaningfully pulling them out, so they don't consider it disruptive to that.

You are forgetting the third, and most correctest group of people-

Those for whom putting pineapple on pizza makes it ... no longer pizza, but an abomination to all that is holy and sacred.
