D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Heck at one point someone even insisted the gm needs to allow it because it's difficult for a player to bring themselves to say they don't want to join a game
Or the DM should sacrifice his enjoyment of the game and run a game he doesn't like so the player can have fun. Ignoring that a DM who isn't having fun isn't running a game that's fun, and is running a game that will surely self-destruct before it runs it's intended course.

I thought you just meant that you should respect the DM until the DM shows they are bad. Really, all parties should respect each other until proven otherwise.
That is all I meant. And yes, I've also said that the extended trust should go both ways. DMs should trust their players until the players show that they can't be trusted.

I have a curated list the people know about before we ever have a session 0. It's never been an issue in real life. On the other hand I don't think a DM should just give players whatever they want, a DM's preferences should not be subservient to the wishes of one player. If I say yes to one player then I have no leg to stand on saying no to another.
Agreed. It should be equal. I have a decent list of species for my games but there are limits.

I may even add Tortles should I run a tropical or jungle themed campaign.

This.

I have burned out multiple times for 3-6-12 months and then there was no game for the group.

No.

I detest published settings like FR. There are so many powerful NPCs around, why would a D&D party ever feel special?

I cannot run in a setting with Elminster or Drizzt.
I've run the Realms since 1e and it's just not like that unless the DM makes it that way. Elminster and Drizz't only get used if you want to use them. They don't just sit back in the wings and swoop in to save the day. They can't, because they have their own things going on. The PCs feel special because they are the center of their story, not any of those others.

But is Eberron advanced and sophisticated enough to have pizza?
Apparently if FR can have boba tea with a side of burgers tacos sushi onigiri shrimp cocktail and croissants all at one table I'm sure that someone in eberron can figure out how to add a turntable to a dome oven. Where else would you cook a nice tortle meal when splurging for something a bit more savory than grist?

Which is fine. I ran FR box sets when I first started and then I made the mistake of getting into the novels.

It's never been that I hate tortles, it's that I want a limited number of intelligent humanoid running around. For what it's worth that includes monsters.

Why should a DM run a game he isn't going to enjoy running just so you can play a turtle person? Why shouldn't the DM also be able to have fun playing the game?
The DM shouldn't not have fun just because a player is running a concept he isn't a fan of.

No one is telling a GM what to do. What I'm trying to do is give GMs a little advice. "Stop being so picky. The player has one character, you have the rest of the world."
