Hmm, one level dip for EB (no longer tied to warlock level), a short rest spell and an invocation, then take 19 levels of sorcerer. Sign me up. Coffeelocks are back and better than ever!

I still want iconic class spells to be class-specific, including Eldritch Blast caring only about Warlock levels and Sorcerous Burst caring about Sorcerer levels, and Divine Smites only able to be used by Paladin spell slots. Those three classes are bad for each other.

I've never seen a single-class warlock in the wild that was higher than 6th level. I've only seen them used in multiclass builds at moderate levels. That is not good single-class design to me.

Thinking more about the Great Old One patron:
  • Awakened mind initially reads as something you woudl do to an ally -- a rogue is scouting ahead, and this is a way to stay in touch. It starts with someone within 30', and persists up to 5 miles away (at 20 Charisma).
  • so my first question is, how quickly can you get away from your friends? Druids can use Transport via plants, sure. But a wood elf rogue Dashing will still take 8 minutes to go a mile... and the ability only lasts (warlock level-minutes long.). Hmm. That range seems fishy to me.
  • But! At level 6, it becomes an offensive ability. Bonus-action Awakened mind means you are causing a foe you are connected with, who understands your thoughts and you are communicating with, to have disadvantage. That's really fun -- it feels, I don't know, intimate? It's not something you're doing to an ally anymore, but you're opening your mind to an enemy, and crushing them with it. I sort of love this.
  • Create Thrall. I prefer that it brings another thing into the field rather than charms someone you've tied up.
  • Psychic spells means Enchantment and Illusion are cast as if they had Silent spell: Mind sliver, Minor Illusion, fear, Major image, and the amazing Shadow Blade. Wear your focus on a chain around your neck, and no one's the wiser.

I am wrong far too often to know which thing I was wrong about this time without clarification.
When UA 5 came out you were quite insistent that short rest recovery of class’ primary was completely off the table, and that I was being obtuse in saying that they had made no such claim in the accompanying video. I brought the matter back up when they mentioned in the UA 5 feedback video that pact magic would be returning, and you still insisted that the returning version of pact magic would use some other recovery mechanism than short rest, and said you would apologize for berating me about it earlier if it did turn out to be short rest based. Now not only are pact magic and monk discipline points short rest based, but Crawford explicitly said in the UA 7 video that they’re trying to give all classes more reasons to want to short rest.

I’ll dig the receipts back up if you want.
