The Nothing Beasts

This is my first attempt at a homebrew monster and thought it might be worth sharing, now that it is past the very first steps of creation.

Nothing Beasts
I didn't say there wasn't anything chasing us, I said NOTHING was chasing us.


The nothing beasts are a strange creature composed of an utter emptiness, some scholars go so far as to speculate they are the result of botched Bags of Holding or spawn of a Sphere of Oblivion. They seem to have no matter, no mass and appear to be concentrated nothingness. A greater nothing beast often appears as an amorphous vaguely humanoid form, while a lesser nothing beast will often take the shape of whatever it was spawned from. In either case they unnervingly hover inches above the ground, but still make the motions of walking. They can walk off cliffs without falling down at all but they will often choose to lower themselves in search of more prey. They seem to have no ecological niche and simply exist to pull any creatures into the nothingness inside them. While some appear to be no more than animals, there are tales of some that appear to possess a mean cunning and even some that appear to be driven by unknowable goals.

Suction A nothing beast pulls everything toward it. Any creature touching it or hitting it with a melee attack must make a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be grappled by it (escape DC 12), a creature hitting it with a weapon may drop the weapon to avoid the grapple, non-magical weapons dropped this way are lost forever to the void.
Pull to Nowhere Any creature grappled by a Lesser Nothing Beast takes 4 (1d8) bludgeoning damage at the start of their turn.
Above the World A nothing beast constanly levitates a couple inches off the ground, and can maintain that altitude, even if the ground lowers for any reason. It cannot levitate upward.
Actions

Tendril Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit 4 (1d4+2) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled by it.

Spawn Nothing Any creature of Small to large size that is killed by a Greater Nothing Beast is pulled into its void, leaving this reality. A Lesser Nothing Beast is then created adjacent to the Greater Nothing Beast
Actions

Multiattack The greater nothing beast makes three tendril attacks.
Tendril Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10ft., one target. Hit 9 (1d12+3) bludgeoning damage and the target is grappled by it.

I am working on the Legendary version next, some more magic resistance, legendary actions, etc. Add some offense and intelligence to what are otherwise heavy defense monsters (it is hard to hurt nothing).

However, that is a priority under me getting a draft of my new class out. Since it is a heavy turn into the Beastmaster ranger (more WoW Hunter than warrior with a pet) it requires me to either stat a lot of pets or come up with solid companion/pet/summon mechanics. Fortunately I can steal a lot from base ranger and someone else did a lot of the early heavy lifting for me.
