Spoilers The War Between the Land and the Sea (spoilers)

I rather enjoyed that. Was it a war? Meh, don't care. I'm not about to get terribly fussy about titles.

Acting and story were both pretty good. Yeah, there's some plot holes- not checking the ambassador's globe/bomb, not watching Barclay more in the hotel. I mean, seriously, one guard at the door and no one else checking anything? Unit, for all it's "I need to know everything" have some pretty serious blind spots.

That ending was heart wrenching though. The defeated people being rounded up to live on a reservation where they will be hunted like animals hits pretty damn close to home. The allegory here isn't exactly sublte.

But, what happened to "we need to arrest Salt as a traitor" then "oh, now Salt is our leader again"? That part, for me, rang the most hollow.

Overall though, a good watch and worth the time.

Did they really choose to start it, though? We've been using the sea as our garbage bin for decades. Everytime the Sea Devils or Silurians are depicted in the Whoniverse, it is always decided by governments and even UNIT in the classic days to not be worth the trouble, so just bury them with explosives (Pertwee), or kill/entomb them in an underwater grave (Davison). It could even be argued that because of every past interaction, that the sea devils consider the way weve treated the planet as an act of global terrorism. Just my two cents.
The Sea Devils decided their entire diplomatic strategy would consist of power moves, impossible and obviously unreasonable demands, threats, and terrorism. Humanity overreacted, but war was inevitable.

And the Sea Devils have started hostilities literally every single time in the show.

It's the same cycle, humans obviously accidentally cause harm to them (or are just minding their own business on land they want), they start murdering humans and making threats, and their refusal to engage in good faith diplomacy and repeated attacks result in humans blowing them up/otherwise destroying them.

You would think the Sea Devils would have learned by now that they always lose when they resort to violence.
