Do those fantasy book get movie adaptations? I feel like a Pathfinder movie after a D&D movie comes out would look like a cheap knock off to the lambda viewer… I don’t know if it’s something a studio would like to get involved with.
Yeah. It's just a rough guideline, but all the marketing/advertising/distribution/etc is commonly estimated as being about as much as the cost of the movie itself. Thus, twice the production cost to break even.
that would assume the theater does not take a cut… so it really needs to be 4x the production cost to break even

I think Matt Damon said a movie typically has to double the budget to break even. 100m budget needs 200m since half goes to theaters as an easy way to figure it out. It was a recent interview (last couple years) where he mentioned it.
She held the brick up first to block the incoming axe-strike - something that would not have worked using just her bare hands, I'd wager - and then, since she was already holding a brick, I have no problem with her using it as a weapon, smashing the guard's foot and then popping him one in the jaw. I'd much rather punch somebody's jaw with a brick than my own fist, if I had the option....
It basically means it will do well internationally because the RPG is small potatoes compared to the brand. But much like comic books where Marvel Studios needs the comics to maintain the core brand, WOTC needs the RPG to succeed with its core audience to maintain the core audience for the licensing to succeed. Transformers is an example. Bay lost the core fans and If you don't get the small, core fans, you don't have an audience because the good will won't exist. I know, I know a lot of the core audience for older editions are very much "WOTC doesn't want my money" but these players moved on 20+ years ago when 3e came out and they called it TETSNBN on the Grog forums. In 20 years a whole new audience grew around the brand and two generations of players have emerged and their audience is very much 5e. So if the 5e audience, which is largely indifferent to the OGL changes, and the general audiences that would go to the movies watch this... 33.3 million people worldwide at $15 a pop is easily doable on what is one of Hasbro's biggest brands right now and one of the biggest brands on the planet in this day and age of everything going to Netflix of this nature. If it comes out in China where fantasy does extremely well? It looks good, it looks entertaining. 500 million is usually considered a failure these days. This won't be a failure. I am guessing 700.
Yep, currently costs about $200 (pre-tax) at my local theater for the newest movies, somewhat less for stuff that's been out a while. Equivalent of something like 15-20 movie tickets (so Wizards has lost about that many sales in this instance). Like you, Covid is what pushed me to learn about these options... it helped me and my friends keep up on the MCU. Also worth noting: my friends generally chip in as well, reducing the burden on me, I just wind up paying the lion's share.
This is sort of correct. Budget plus marketing and a movie like this also has merchandising that helps to reduce that need. Like Phantom Menace and the other SW sequels were paid off through merchandising before they even debuted in theaters. It's why something like Shang Chi is getting a sequel, merchandise did well, vs no confirmed sequel to Eternals, which did about the same theatrically but the merchandising still sits on shelves without movement.
Sadly, I'm sure the movie will be full of this sort of thing. All the characters ARMED with WEAPONS will always be like picking up objects as slapstick comedy.
You should definitely save yourself the pain of seeing the movie or watching any more trailers.
It's a line of acid, exactly like it's been in the tabletop version since black dragons were invented. You can see the acid dissolving things and bubbling on the ground in that trailer. It's basically how I, at least, have visualized what a flying black dragon using its breath weapon would look like ever since I started playing the game.
