OOC: Beamer can cast the spell from 140 feet away, which should be plenty of room to avoid detection. Amazingly, this spell is Saving Throw: None so it should work. He will also include Banion and Draig as targets (he gets 4) so they can hear the words.

ooc 1: Since you need 1 foot of stone to block the spell and don´t have to start whispering the moment you cast, nor maintan line of sight, we´ll say you´re pretty much undetectable.

The guard jumps as if someone poured clod water on him. "Who´re you? Show yourself!" shouts, drawing a sword and waving it around trying to determine where the sound is coming from.

It takes you a while to make him understand how the thing works; at this time, he´s surrounded by other four guards, counting another one that was inside the warehouse and came out. They talk for a while, saying the obvious -many variations of what the hell is happening, are you mad, and such-

Finally, Beamer can make himself understood though the contacted guard; however, now that they are more calmed and speak quieter, you don´t realy know if they really buy your words or not. Only that they go back to their posts -this time noticeably more alert, and closer to the doors-, except the guard you cast the spell upon, who runs towards Market square.

ooc 2: You can fast forward when you can, as I see nothing that will bother you while you´re watching. I´d like also a rough indication of your position, based on the description I gave earlier. If you want an sketch of the warehouse and the surrounding terrain I´ll make one.

OOC: If there`s an alley or something leading into the city not more than a couple of buildings away from the warehouse somewhere like that sounds good. Somewhere where we can either get to the action quickly, or disappear into the city easily if need be.

It seems to Banion like it'll all come to a head soon. The risk of being armed in public seems outweighed by the advantages of being as prepared as possible.

"Weapons at the ready, everyone." He says quietly, and manifests his mindblade. He holds it low and out of sight, double checking that it's fully charged. It was, of course, but you can never be too sure.

ooc: Ok, a crude map of the warehouses´ immediate surroundings with your position.

IC: You draw and ready your weapons and hide, expecting problems soon. However, nothing happens for a couple hours.

Finally, when the darkness is even more intense and all traces of the sun´s light have dissapeared from the western sky leaving only a fait tracery of stars, Beamer hearsthe sound of hooves beating the street´s dirt.

ooc: You can hear just a couple horses, and it´s not a gallop. The sound is coming, but apparently not to exactly your position.

Not seeing the need to risk being spotted himself, Draig stays out of view, letting the two halflings watch what´s happening.

The noise raises, being clearly heard in the cold night. It´s produced by two horses pulling a cart that slows and finally stops near the warehouse, in front of the western door. One man drives it, and hails Koplov´s guards, asking for some directions. One of them (Koplov´s) approaches sword in hand.

He turns, just to see one of his companion dropping dead to the ground as he emits a sigh of pain; you´re no sure of what happened, since the buildings and the cart blocked your view, but seems as if someone has attacked him by surprise. As the armed guard turns to the cart´s driver, he´s greeted by a drat fired by a hand crossbow that sinks in his throat. He falls too, gasping for air. The canvas that covered the cart is thrown away, revealing more attackers; one of them shouts "Ignite!" and a stream of fire sprouts from the stick he´s holding, consuming another of the guards.

"Well, we warned them." Banion mutters, and looks over at his companions. "Now it's time to fight!"

Banion waits half a beat for acknowledgment, then tries to get into position to hurl a mindblade at the spellcaster. If at all possible, he'd like to be within 30' and better yet still hidden. If more overt action is called for, so be it.

Beamer feels contempt mixed with a bit of pity as the guards are manhandled despite their warning. He would have been content to wait a moment more hoping that Idrag would emerge, but as Banion is ready to join the fight, Beamer is there to support his companion. He signals his consent with a nod of his head.

Beamer is unfamiliar with the spell cast spell craft (12), but thinks I must learn that one.

Hoping to take advantage of the men clustered in the wagon, Beamer casts his new spell causing an explosion of shining dust (DC 15).

ooc: actually, you´re a new party arriving at a battle, and you´re aware of the fight, so IIRC that puts you on top of the initiative count. The spellcaster has cover from the cart, if you want to change your target. Anyway, 1st round post will come tomorrow.

OK, more than happy not to need that poor initiative roll anyway. Banion wants to be within 30', though if he can circle to get around the cover rather than charging toward someone he'd rather do that. He doesn't mind charging the wizard, but if possible he'll stay at least 10' away from any melee types.

[sblock=Completely and Utterly ooc]Last night I got my copy of Dragon magazine, which contained some sage advice about soulknives. Specifically, it says that rather than remaining a particular shape until changed, soulknives always manifest their mindblades as shortswords until you use the action to shape them. For a soulknife specialized in throwing his mindblade, this is very disheartening. He manifests a new mindblade after every single attack. The class allready pretty much sucks, and I was playing it as an experiment, but that's got to be the last straw. This will almost certainly be Banion's last adventure.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc: ]That´s ridiculous. That condems the class to use a full round action each time they draw their weapons. It´s utterly devastating for ranged soulknives, but also for close combat ones: what are they going to do, have the blade always turned on, or else fight with a short sword instead of the alternate shapes? The class only possible strong niche is as scout/first round striker, and this interpretation nullifies it.

In any game I DM I won´t be certainly using that[/sblock]

Round one

You swiftly advance to help Koplov’s guards, launching all you have. Banion’s mindblade hits the cart with a quiet and unnatural sound, just two inches from the guy with the stick, a split second before everyone there is covered by a bright shower of sparks. “Close you e…!!” he shouts, but to no avail; pretty much everyone there now sparkles like a Christmas tree. The magician, the only one that isn´t blinded apparently takes it personally; he walk out to plain view and aims Beamer with his wand; the same word “Ignite!” is pronounced, and a stream of fire sails to Beamer, who´s just barely able to jump to one side, suffering minor injuries from he intense heat. However, he wonders how much time he´ll be able to dodge the magic discharges, if the wizards duel continues.

“Leave them alone!” commands one of the blinded attackers. “Open the door!”. At the same time, two other more attackers you haven’t realized yet come from the sides and close your way, threatening you with shortswords. What´s more, you’d swear there’s another cart at the other side of the building.

[ooc: First, I know that the situation is quite confusing without a map, and I intend to keep it that way, because the situation is really confusing for your characters. A map with precise situations would paradoxically betray the general situation and make it appear what it isn’t.

Banion does his best to have a clear view of the spellcaster and throws his mindblade. However, the protection the cart gives him is enough to save him from being hut

Beamer casts Glitterdust, catching several people there. The spellcaster rolls a natural 20, making the DM look as if he’s railroading the adventure or something. Other three attackers and the only remaining defender are blinded.

Draig, just advances in front of the group wielding his urgosh, since he can’t charge from his position.

The enemy spellcaster turns to you and fires the wand, aiming at Beamer. He rolls a total of 15, barely succeeding, and deals 13 damage. You can make the spellcraft check again.

A couple more attackers move into position (10 feet from draig), threatening you. Notice they each have a couple shortswords, using two weapon fighting style.

Party status: Beamer 13 damage]
