This thread is now about how a REAL pirate fights!
Talk Like a Pirate Day isn't until September, ye scurvy cur.

Although, speaking honestly, I could do it everyday and be a much happier man.

Yarr, Matey. :)

Blacksilver and Talon5, I'd advise you both to get over yourselves. You aren't the only ones in pain, everyone has pain. Its a universal constant of humanity - everyone, from the beggar to the king, is going to suffer at some point in their lives. Deal with your pain and don't allow others to control you with it. How to deal with it -- though therapy, religion, whatever works for you. But to suggest that someone should stop joking around with you because he Damaged the Gentle Flower of your Soul and Exposed your Pain is not only melodrama, but ridiculous.

I've got true friends, guys that are closer to me than family, and our common names for each other wouldn't make it past the language filter.

Believe it or not my friend, she might not consider her friends actions to be teasing.

After all, when it comes to human interaction, the so-called "truth of the matter" is often held by more than one person.

BlackSilver's friend might not realize he is hurting her.

To the best of my knowledge, BlackSilver is being hurt and she is not telling the person who is hurting her.

Also, I fully admit that I am a narcissist, misogynist, classist, racist, and completely shallow person.

When more narcissists can admit their shortcomings and actually do something about them, the world will indeed be paradise.

The fact that both you folks seems to wear your "pain" openly does make you an easy mark. Right, wrong or otherwise. If the fella picks solely on the two of you (making an assumption that you are in different groups), then he is, in all probabilty, being malicious. And then, a trip to the woodshed would be in order. However, it sounds as though the thinness of your skins is getting in the way of developing relationships with individuals who are not a "pained" as you.

The only people who consistently use words like "mark", "schill", or "rube" are con-artists. The very best con-artists know that in order to lie effectively, you must be able to fool yourself (ask Anton LaVey).

That is why the best police officers tend to be reformed criminals.

That is why the best military commanders tend to be reformed bullies.

That is why the best school principals tend to be reformed delinquents.

That is why the best teachers tend to be the formerly ignorant.

Remember, a bad person never feels that they are indeed bad ... if they did, heaven forfend, they might actually feel guilt.

Shame is a gift my friend, use it wisely ... do not run away from it.

This comparision is the proverbial apples and oranges. You correllate a physical attack on the defenseless with verbal interplay between friendly associates, if not friends. (Again, making an assumption here because I would not play in a campaign with people who were or who I did not want to be my friends). Additionally, what is a "professional bully?"

First off my fellow narcissist, let me school you to gain your respect.

Although apples and oranges are different things, they are both fruit.

Now let us begin some real communication:

Communication is mostly metaphor, that is why proverbs are so effective. They demonstrate why wordplay, or sophistry, is no substitute for the Truth.

For example:

When most people use the "apples and oranges" metaphor, they use it to imply an inaccurate comparison.

When narcissists (and sophists) use the "apples and oranges" metaphor, they are using it to win an argument and nothing more. They are using it as a means to an end. Ultimately, they are using a person (i.e., the other conversant) as a means to an end.

A sophist can counter any argument, unmask any liar, perceive any untruth. His gaze pierces all ... like the Eye of Sauron. If the world does not adjust to his vision, he will destroy it and attempt to rebuild.

He can do these things because he is an ignorant liar. Basically, he is the supreme master of deceit because he can lie to himself.

My friend, when you look into the mirror of the slanderer ... who do you see?

That seems kinda ironic, after reading your post. Not that you're posting anything I'd call untruth, but it sure is a great example of sophistry. It doesn't actually say much of anything at all.

Thank You My Brother in Hypocrisy

Negating another person's speech without evidence to support your claim is a form of sophistry.

I am a liar in position of power, and I am a hypocrite.

Still, we all have power ... even if we refuse to see it.

At some level, we are all hypocrites and it eats us up inside.

I quoted the above because Maddman has just summed up everything I wanted to say, but did it better.

The Thayan Menace - Man, you really need to put down the pop pseudo-psychology books for a bit.

Just because something is popular, does not mean that it is fake. Perhaps it is merely democratic.

Besides, the only way you would know if I had read popular psychology is in one of two ways:

1. You read it too.
2. You do not know what you are talking about.

Which one is it?

Secondly, Truth:

I am a second-generation American and a first-born son.

I graduated college with a B.A. in Social Science, a concentration in Anthropology, and a minor in Religious Studies.

I recieved an M.A. in History and wrote a thesis entitled "The Janus Mahdi: An Examination of Congressional Allegations Concerning the Clinton Administration's Role in the Transfer of Iranian Arms & Personnel to Bosnia in 1994."

I speak two languages fluently: English & Greek. I also know a smattering of Spanish, Latin, French, and Arabic.

I currently teach at a prestigious private school in the Sacramento area. My classes are Western Civilization, Global Studies (The Middle East & Africa), Psychology, and Advanced Placement World History.

I run a successful FRCS campaign, based in Thay, called CRIMSON RECKONING. My sense of verisimilitude is decent because I use my knowledge of Byzantine history, institutional slavery, and heretical religious movements to make my setting appear "real".

More importantly, I have an amazing group of intelligent players at my table who give me great ideas.

I am a narcissist and a successful person.

I, like you, want to stop verbally abusing people and start using my gifts to help them.

By helping others ... I help myself.

I have a BA and have done Master's work in Psychology, FWIW. I beg to differ that there are only two options here.

Uhm... Thanks for the list of your academic credentials, I suppose.

I don't see how it relates to the issue at hand or makes you right - but hey, I took second place at the egg toss in third grade and I'm still feeling pretty good about it. So I'm happy for you! Yay you!

I, like you, want to stop verbally abusing people and start using my gifts to help them.

Who said that's what I want?
