Emral runs at the halfling, drawing his dagger as he does so. Hey you! Stop now or I'll catch you with my magic! he yells as he goes, eyes like burning coals fixed on the halfling.

I hope the crowd scatters so they don't get hurt; then we can tackle this guy. What did they mean "save Drivan"?!

EDIT: coming up to the edge of the water, Emral grunted back a curse.

I can't change into water form now, not since the old man's head. Folks, what did you mean when you said we have to save Drivan? Did something happen to him? Where is he? At the library?

With everyone screaming and pointing at the same time, it's difficult to make out what the crowd says. However, it seems that Drivan is not in the library; he's been kidnapped by some adventurers. Marco has been kidnapped by the same people. Finally, Hadarai is an *****-hole.

Finnian drops his sword, bow and backpack at the river's edge, pulls his boots off and dives into the river.

Seeing Finnian jump in the water, Vaunea drops her axe and shield and jumps into the water as well.

"Catch small man!" she yells.

Just after leaving her feet, Vaunea remembers her inability to swim well. She bellyflops into the water and begins treading very slowly back towards the dock/anywhere she can get back up.

"Water, bad. No like water." Vaunea cries as she slowly makes her way back to the dock.

Aw, man! You gotta love it!

As Finnian removes his gear, the crowd starts to cheer. "Fin-ni-an! Fin-ni-an!"

Their chant builds in intensity as Finnian nears the edge of the dock and prepares to leap.

A man somewhere in the midst of the crowd asks a neighbor, "Hey, ain't you supposed to take off your armor before you go fer a swim?"

Someone shushes that man.

As the ranger leaps, the chant goes silent, as the crowd hushes in awe of Finnian's swan dive. The ranger hits the water with next to no spray, disappearing into the depths in pursuit of the halfling.

The crowd rushes to the water's edge. The chanting builds again. "Fin-ni-an! Fin-ni-an! Fin-ni-an! FIN-NI-AN!"

And it continues for quite some time with nary a bubble in the water.

"Fin-ni-an?"

The ranger surfaces, thrashing, coughing and gasping for air.

A woman screams in terror. Children begin to wail. "Someone save Finnian!"

Seeing Finnian jump in the water, Vaunea drops her axe and shield and jumps into the water as well.

"No, really," says the man in the midst of the crowd, "I'm certain you're supposed to take off your armor before you go for a swim."

Someone slaps him this time.

The crowd starts yelling suggestions...

• Use a rope! You're all adventurers, so you've got to have standard adventurer kits!
• Throw Hadarai in after him! ***** floats! Finnian can use that as ballast to get back to the shore.
• Call your bird, Finnian! He'll fly you to safety!
• Attack the water with a fire spell!
• Use a comprehend languages ritual to communicate with fish!

Oddly enough, despite their eager suggestions, no one seems to be lifting a finger to actually DO anything...

Emral reaches into his backpack and pulls out some rope, tossing one end to Finnian while holding onto the other himself. Vaunea, quick: help Finnian before he drowns!

As the ranger is brought ashore, Emral calls to the crowd. Wait, Marco is also gone? But he doesn't have his vision scryed upon those screens: how do you know he's gone? Wait, not all of you. You, what happened? He picks a smart-looking person in the crowd (preferably female, attractive, etc.)

The lovely brunette with the spectacles clasps her hand to her chest to still her beating heart, so shocked is she at being addressed. "Oh! Oooh! I..."

Taking a huge gulp, she says, "The screens don't just show us events through your eyes. We can see things of interest to your group. Just a little while ago, we saw that group come and kidnap Marco's family. And after you returned to the Quill, that halfling started following your team."

Shaking herself dry as she gets back on the docks, Vaunea looks at her two companions.

"Watch screen? Find Drivan?"
