Day 260: Meeting the Ansylin Silk Collectors

Sannit and Torvald move down the incline, in the lead, followed by Sheldon and Indigo on the left and Vadin on the right, the group forming a strategic V formation.

The Seekers moving forward notice that the pickers and the guards are all about the same age, between 20 to 30. Making no attempt at secrecy, the group almost immediately garners the attention of those below. The pickers look a bit startled and back slowly away, facing the Seekers. Several of the guards quickly form together moving in between the pickers and the oncoming Seekers. The others guards all turn to face the new comers but do not move from their stations, a few having the presence of mind to look around for other threats.

The guards that remain separate train bows upon the approaching Seekers. The other guards move their spears to defensive positions.

Sheldon quickly calls down.
"Stay your hands gentlemen. We come peaceably. We are here to offer a business proposal."

One guard, who appears to be eldest among them, takes a step forward and moves his spear to a passive position. He then pumps his left hand off to his side in a common gesture of 'hold your attack'.
"Hold your position there and state your business."

Vadin looks at the guard and removes his hand from the handle of his sword. He let's out a little laugh, and says "Surely we are looking in the wrong place. These do not look like they carry any silk." He looks at the guard, "but, perhaps I am wrong."

Tor speaks, "My friend is a kidder," he says, with a sideways glance at Vadin, "It's obvious you're out here for the silk. There's no other reason for you to be out here in the heat, in the middle of nowhere. We bring news of 2 groups of hostile tribesmen in the area, one Deviard, the other Da'Roneh. We can describe the landmarks to you if you'd like. But trade comes first; how much silk have you gathered so far?"

Day 260: Pickers and Guards

... Bolo keep an arrow nocked as she watches. Turtle focuses his sense on their surroundings, making sure no danger draws near.
GM: From her vantage point. Bolo sees that the other Seekers move to about the middle of the string of pickers and guards. She counts 24 pickers and 10 guards. She notes the movement of the guards and decides that some of them appear fairly competent.

Turtle sniffs the air and flicks his ears. He is satisfied that no other potential danger is near.

Vadin looks at the guard and removes his hand from the handle of his sword. He let's out a little laugh...

Sheldon looks at Sannit then at Vadin as he begins to speak. He rolls his eyes. He runs his left hand through his hair, pulling it back from his face. He looks as if he is about to say something, then shakes his head and frowns.

Tor speaks,"My friend is a kidder," he says, with a sideways glance at Vadin. "It's obvious you're out here for the silk. The most central guard who is facing the approaching Seekers, rotates his small wooden shield and moves his spear back from passive to melee ready, the point is down, his hand about midway on the shaft.
"Robali and Straso, you are with me, if you have the sand. The rest of you run!"

The speaker takes two steps forward as he continues to speak. "I do not know what game you are playing here, but I can see that you are capable well enough to not fear the natural dangers of this jungle. You joke of silk and talk of Deviard and Da'Roneh. The Shimadow and Katalian are the indigenous peoples of this jungle and they are plenty hostile, but I would say that any real threat lies with the likes of you.

The three of us will likely prove no match, but hopefully we will slow or injure enough of you to allow the our people to escape. I will not go down without a fight
."
The guard with twin shortswords readies his weapons and begins to move toward the Seekers. The other guard that is to remain has an arrow trained on Sannit, since he spoke first. All other turn southward and begin to run.

I realize that Sannit hasn't gone yet, but I have to post this while I have the chance. You can copy Tor's statement and put it in the correct chronological order as need-be.

On Tor's action, he will say:

"Of course we're capable. But we are no threat to you. We are the Southroad Seekers. Please forgive our inability at diplomacy, swordplay comes easy to youths like us, but social niceties elude us at times. But I can assure you, we are not miscreants, ruffians, or thieves. We mean you no harm. Ease your weapons, and let us share salt. We only came to talk."

Bolo positions herself so she may have a clear shot at the archer and draws back her arrow, aiming it at his heart. If the archer shoots at Sannit, then he dies first.

The friendly smile falls from Sannit's face. He does not change his grip on his spear, but he subconsciously shifts his feet to a defensive stance in case they attack. He says, "If we were a threat to you we would have ambushed you, and we have indeed come to talk of silk. We are the Southroad Seekers. We have indeed faced the Da'Roneh and the Deviard only a few days distance from here and if you do not wish to speak peacefully with us then you will fare no better than they did." Then, to emphasize his point, Sannit releases his spear and lets it fall to the ground, effectively standing unarmed against them and showing no fear.

OOC: Of course it's easy for Sannit to be brave when he knows he can be healed with Way from even the most grievous injury, but theres no need for these guys to know that.


Turtle, sensing the increased anxiety in Bolo, waits for her command, but shakes his head at how easy it is to find people willing to fight.

GM: Though Sannit's words fill more time than is necessary for the much slower soldiers and pickers to react. It will take even more time for them to process the information they are currently receiving.
