D&D 5E Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

Fair enough, ph0rk, but a ten-year span of time does not take into consideration the predictions of imminent publication within three years that I was responding to on the previous page and in the early pages of this forum thread.

Ten years is a long time and, frankly, it's not much of a prediction to say that a new edition will appear within 17 years of a D&D edition's publication (5th edition debuting in 2014) when support for the 1st edition lasted 11 years, the 2nd edition 11 years, 3rd edition 8 years, and 4th edition much less.
And it is still just an assumption based on past performance. The point is no one KNOWS anything and all the gloomy prognostication in this thread isn't a crystal ball so much as it is a rorschach test for the prognosticators.

Removal or de emphasis on Alignment.

Eberron style approach to Lineage.

Absolutely a removal of any kind of cultural or ability restrictions based on Lineage.

Player choice, flexibility of the rules, will trump any kind of world building restrictions, and the older views on how various fantasy lineages are presented and codified will be neglected or outright removed.
I “liked” your comment because you are correct....not because I am cheering for all of that.

WOC can maintain the current schedule for the next 3 years by releasing 1 new rules book, a monster book, a couple of campaign settings and a half dozen hardback campaigns.

Is @Minigiant really suggesting that they won’t be able to manage that - driving a new edition/revision.

With WOCs IP they can manage that three times over without difficulty. Plus I suspect that WOC are absolutely inundated with ideas from people who want a piece of that sweet 5e pie.

Never say never but suggestions of a new edition at this point with the YOY growth exponential, it is pure wishful thinking for a few people. No evidence at all.

Because...reasons.

Okay.

Because their other products have been what? Flops?

Any evidence beyond your doomsaying? Anything to support a position so out of sync with everything that has happened up to now?
I've stated the reasons.
But let's look at Tasha's.

A rereleased class. all the warrior classes have magic sublclasses, Peace and Mercy sublasses, Guidance on builds, Other released subclasses. 9 summon spells that summon things from other books, only 50 pages of DM tools.

Tasha's is great but you can only sell something like that and get a big buzz once.

If only the WotC design team was composed of creative individuals who could employ different ideas in different contexts to keep options interesting and provide new and compelling content.
