D&D 5E Volo's Guide to Monsters - Which monsters do you want to see?

I'm wondering if the more popular monstrous humanoids - kobolds, goblinoids, orcs, maybe gnolls - will just be combined into one chapter. That seems extreme, but it looks like there is a lot going on in Chapter 1...

Doubtful; one of the main points of the exercise seems to be to flesh out those very popular races and their unique societies and ecologies. Assuming hags are hangers on for one of the seven, it looks like just enough for all seven lynchpin races to get 12-14 pages to themselves, describing culture, variants and associated critters.

The Polygon article mentions Goblins having four castes; is that an earlier ed thing, or something new?

So these guys are going to be in the book:

Apparently they're called "Grung", and while they may look cute and cuddly, they are fierce.

No word on if they will be a playable race or not.

Google Fu indicates these guys appeared twice before: Greyhawk Adventures in 1E, and the Monstrous Compendium Greyhawk pack in 2E. Seem to be noy so different from Bullywugs?

Bet they will be in Chapter three, but also on the quick rules table for NPCs and P s if desired...

Appears that these dudes are poisonous, unlike Bullywugs; but not much else different.
According to Greyhawk Adventures, they're evil, territorial, swamp-dwelling amphibians. There's really nothing there to differentiate them from Bullywugs. Color me disappointed. If there's one thing 5E doesn't need more of, it's low-CR humanoids.

In previous editions (I looked it up), the grung have shamans, but are not said to have bards. If their shamans are at all musical, that may be the source of their grung-rock music.

Otherwise, these guys seem to fit on nearly the bottommost grung of the food-chain ladder.

tuxgeo: According to Harshnag's twitter feed: "I believe they are still looking for a drummer. But it's my estimation that grung music is going to be huge!"

Hmm, that's a particularly obscure choice - I'm pretty good at keeping my early-edition D&D monsters straight, and I had to go look these guys up.

Basically, they seem to be the poisonous halfling version of bullywugs.

I'm not sure if I agree with giving up precious space to include these guys, as I can think of quite a few monsters I'd rather see updated. If most of those make it into Volo's, then having a weirdo or two like these will be OK. Hopefully we won't get too many odd choices that would begin to crowd out more famous monsters...
