So.... what are we even discussing anymore?
Lat's lay out some common ground.
Remove all qualifiers and defining statements and everyone wants more content. Seriously, I doubt a single person on this thread wants the doors to be shut and this be all we will ever receive for 5e. So we all want more content.
We obviously can't agree on how quickly or how much content. I'd bet we'd all be happy with the same quantity, but some people want to spread that quantity over a larger period of time. Getting to the bare bones, some people just aren't happy with how things currently look.
A driving force behind advice and discussions is the desire to find solutions. What are our solutions?
1) Force WoTC and Hasbro to make more stuff faster.
Without devolving into criminality or being major investors who drop a million dollars on the company, I don't see a single individual pulling this off. And sure, we could have a movement, vote with our dollars and all that. But most of us don't agree on what we want to see, and WoTC might misinterpret the signals we send.
2) Wait
If they don't have what you want yet, wait and see if they will have it later.
If you only want to buy WoTC products, nothing else, for whatever reason. If it requires the seal of approval from that office to be real at your table, these are your only two options. They aren't great options, they kind of suck. But they really seem to be the only two viable options you have.
No one wants to tell another person that there isn't a solution to their problem. So we on the internet move towards other solutions.
3) Make it yourself
Game doesn't have what you want, make it yourself. You've got the tools and the permission to go nuts and build whatever you want to build. Problem is you may not have the time, energy, skill, and/or will to do so. I certainly don't most of the time unless it is fluff. So, if you can make use of this solution, it is perfect because you will end up with exactly what you want, if you can't use it then you need something else.
4) 3rd Parties
Which is how we get to 3rd party developers. WoTC isn't doing what you want, but maybe somebody else is. And there are so many homebrewed bits and pieces all over the internet, it's like walking into a 6 story sprawling library. Sure, you may not find what you want, but if you sift through long enough chances are you'll get something amazing out of it.
And I think here we've laid out the last possible solution. I certainly can't think of anything else. To add a bit of corporate justice to it though, a lot of really good work comes out of those 3rd parties from what I have heard. I've personally never gone and gotten them, because I've been relatively happy with what 5e has offered and I was worried about balance issues. I'm moving towards perhaps buying some really highly talked about stuff though, like that Tome of Beasts, but look back up to our 1st solution, when we talked about voting with your dollars. These are small companies, they don't have massive brand recognition, but they are still creating professional work and struggling to carve out a successful business. I think that is partially why people are so quick to recommend them, not only do they do good work, but they need the support or else by voting with our dollars we'll end up voting them out of existence and then we will be left with only the old and big companies, who may not have the innovations that we're looking for to move the brands and products we want.
So, if they don't have stuff you like, or you feel you can't possibly know whether you would like it or not and don't feel like taking the risk, don't buy their stuff. But... these are the paths forward you've got. If you won't homebrew and you won't go 3rd party, then start raising the funds to buy WoTC's attention, because it is either that or sitting back and doing nothing.
