Warlock confirmed in PH1...

I thought warlord was confirmed. Am I mistaken?

Personally, I think this was just a typo on that character creation program, it was supposed to say warlock. WOTC just hasn't told us yet because of all the speculation:)

Because ancient tyrannical empires with members who made pacts with fiends is unique to Dawnforge?

No. Because ancient, tyrannical empires who led to the creation of fiend-blooded humans on a frequent enough basis that they're a core race in a setting/game, is something Dawnforge did in 3E, whereas they weren't anything like that in core 3E, or in 2nd Ed., for that matter.

Quite the similarity there, actually.

Then they said the Warlord was a leader and had someone talk about them in the playtest reports just to further muddy the waters..

Er, Forgotten Realms had Tieflings in 3E as part of the core campaign setting.

Very different....the whole empire of evil, demonic pacts thing wasn't there. They were largely just described as being of fiendish bloodlines, and in a few places like Mulhorand, being related to Incarnations.

If you are referring to the roles video where James Wyatt explains the roles to Gamer_Zero, then no. There was no specifics on how many of each role, or power source, will make it into PH1.
True, they didn't say that, so we don't KNOW how many will be in. We just have the one comment saying there will be 8 classes for sure in the PHB1 and that the only ones confirmed are Fighters, Wizards, Clerics, Rogues.

However, James Wyatt mentions 7 classes and exactly what their roles are. He was also about to mention an 8th class when Gamer Zero cut him off (the second controller).

I think that that classes who are the most complete and most tested will end up in the PHB1 and I think James Wyatt was likely mentioning those classes that they actually knew the roles for since they were the furthest along in development.

If there are 8 classes in the PHB, it'll almost certainly be
Fighter
Rogue
Cleric
Wizard
Paladin
Ranger
Warlord
Warlock

I think the next likeliest classes are Druid and Barbarian, if they were to include any more.

Hmm, IMHO, the Warlock is far better suited as an optional class, rather than a "core" one...
The Warlock is easily the most popular class introduced in all of the "Complete x" series books. So many products published after Complete Arcane was released ended up having new material for the warlock because they were such a popular class.

Hell, even Neverwinter Nights 2 had the Warlock as a base class.

So it wouldn't surprise me that because of the Warlock's popularity, it made it into PHB1. It was already being mentioned a bunch of times in the blogs, using powers like "Mire of Minauros" and the promo art had a Dwarven Warlock too.

Really, were you expecting the Samurai and Spellthief to make it into the PHB1?

I could get behind that.

I'm just not sure about the role of the Warlock though. If they use a similar build to the 3.x version, that'd make him more of a striker than controller (less spells and more blasts). Also, with Warlock as a striker, that makes three of 'em in the first PHB (rogue and ranger being the others). That's excatly what I was hoping they'd avoid, loading up on one and/or short-changing another (that would leave only the Wizard as controller).

However, if they switch up the Warlock to be more of a controller (more regular spells and less blasts), that would effectively change the very thing most people liked about him.

And I for one hope they sacrifice reserve feats to whatever dark gods they worship. Really, with the changes we've heard about spells, there doesn't seem to be any reason to keep them. They seemed like a slap-on band-aid solution anyway.

That's a pickle.
