Weapon Help!

I couldn't find anything regarding this so I thought I would ask:

-Do 2H weapons get a bonus to STR damage when used? (for instance in 3e 2h weapons got to add 1.5XSTR to damage)

-Weilding a 1H weapon 2h; is there any benefit?

-Why the hell is the Great Axe so bloody powerful? I mean, there is no reason to take greatsword anymore save for fluff (which is why I am doing it btw in a game I am playing). GS gets a +1 to hit, big deal. Compare that to GA's superior damage AND the fact that is high-crit!!

nope

if it is a versatile weapon you get +1 to damage

- No on 2h weapons getting extra Strength damage; that's been removed.

- Unless its versatile (granting +1 bonus to damage), none.

- In short, the greatsword got over-nerfed from its 3.X glory days to the point it's one of, if not the worst of the 2h weapons. There was a whole thread over on GleeMax discussing this, and probably a couple here at ENWorld. In short, if you feel the greatsword is indeed underpowered compared to the rest of its kin, the options are to either bump it up to 1d12 (or 2d6 if you want to get crazy) or to give it the high crit quality.

Nope, not above what a 1-handed weapon would deal.

Not unless they're versatile.

I haven't crunshed the numbers, but apart from the better attack bonus, you could be a fighter and want the heavy blade benefits.

yeah I think Iw ill make it 2d6. Then it will be like 3E, where the axe was 1d12 but critted on a 19-20.

Oh and Donovan Morningfire, I'll be stopping by SAGA boards and start lobbying that Blade Cascade be made into a lightsaber style for the Sith in the upcoming KOTOR sourcebook. Whaddya think of that eh?

Not by default, but there are some powers and at least one feat (Power Attack), which gives extra benefits if you use 2h weapon.

As long as it is Versatile, you get +1 to damage. This is +1 done only once, so 3[W] will be 3[W]+1, not 3[W]+3.

+1 to hit is quite important, but it offsets with higher damage. High crit on top of that makes greataxe superior. I also think that falchion is slightly better than greatsword (2d4 + high crit seems better than 1d10).

True but the greatsword has higher potential with more multiples granted by powers.

Example:

A powr grants 3[w] damage.

Falchion does 6d4 = 6-24 pts of damage
Greatsword does 3d10 = 3-30 pts of damage

Thats potentially 6 pts of damage more.

Hmm, if I was making a heavy-blade fighter, I'd probably actually burn a feat to go for the bastard sword. It's strictly better than a greatsword when held two-handed.

But then again, if you get Gauntlets of Destruction you get to reroll 1's on damage rolls, so 6d4 would be 12-24 and 3d10 would be 6-30.

But it costs a feat...and grants only +1 damage. Furthermore you can't use power attack's 2H bonusii with it. I say go with Falchion if you don't want GS, better option.
