My thing that I don’t do enough of: interesting monster actions. I’m often guilty of having monsters just run up and do melee attacks, without anything particularly exciting happening. I’ve found that the Volo’s monsters are much better for me on this front, though: they tend to have fun and impressive abilities, even as they just run up and hit the players :D

I'm throwing in a nilbog the first or second time the players encounter some goblins!

1) Combat maneuvers mentioned in the DMG.

2) Spell Points from the DMG

3) No feats/multi-classing

I don't tend to have issues forgetting about Inspiration as I'm a huge fan of similar mechanics in other games. Also, rather than just have them grant advantage on a d20 roll, I let players use them to alter details of the world/plot, cheat death, turn failures into marginal successes with complications, or gain additional uses of per-rest abilities in certain contexts.
