D&D 5E What are people hoping for in Monk UA?

I was thinking that pumpkin spice was the best spice for despair.

But maybe that's just because I've been overdosing on it from the Holidays. One more bright orange, ersatz "Pumpkin Spice" flavored product will send me right over the edge.

We are in peppermint territory, now...

To me the monk seems the best class to re create many character from fightring games like Streetfighter and Mortal combat.

For example a monk that can stretch his body could be interesting like Dhalsim from streetfighter ( spenfing Ki to get reach)

Yeah I think there are a lot of ideas like that which could be mined for fun subclasses.

Sounds ominous.

"What are all those skulls doing on sticks?"

"It's marking a boundary. We need to get through here quickly ... we're entering into Peppermint Territory, now."
Your wrong about skulls on sticks...

Peppermint territory has skulls on candy canes. That's a big difference.

From the recent class UA it seems that the flavor is a secondary priority. It seems to me they want to test the mechanics more (auras, feats in subclasses, 4e mechanics, etc) than the flavor.

So, i think it is probable to see a monk that dabbles with a spellcasting class. However, if the go that way, i would love to see a monk who has his unique maneuvers (like the fighter). A tiger, crane, mantis, etc monk would be great to see.

I definitely agree we need a weapon monk, I believe strongly that it would be an incredible kensai given the chance. The others are a little more complicated because I think that once we have the weapon monk, we're already in pretty good shape for the most basic monk archetypes. I suppose a drunken boxer is another tier 1 monk archetype, and while there's a lot of homebrew versions, the WOTC designers haven't tackled it yet, so that would be cool.

Which means it's definitely ok to move into tier 2 monk archetypes, zen archers are a nice idea, savage animal monks too, and so is a more support oriented monk who can heal (admittedly i hadn't thought about it, but someone mentioned including it as a part of drunken boxing- drunken boxer who prepares their own alcohol and knows the secrets of creating spirits with rejuvenating effects? damn, you're just going to make me disappointment when it doesn't happen.)

I'd like to see these. We had the sacred fist in 3e, an itinerant monk with some minor spellcasting would be nice.
I was thinking the OA Shaman from 3e which I had created a variant to make a little more "clericy". Then again, I prefer Rolemaster Standard System monks from the Channeling Companion (and the web enhancement that had their divine monk which was created too late for inclusion) to D&D monks.
