What are you going to do with all your 3.x stuff?

What are you going to do with your 3E crap?

Oh its okay to call 3.x crap but not 4E. I have so had it with this site. Ask me back when the people here have something worthwhile to say.

OK.... :uhoh:

I'm also annoyed to hear 3.5e called crap when I consider much of it to be pretty darn good. But the OP can rant if he wants to, I guess.

But it's really not fair to call 4E unconditional crap until we've actually had a chance to read the three core rulebooks. I mean, I think a lot of the changes so far that I've read about have been crappy, but I won't be absolutely sure until I get my hands on the books.

I might be pleasantly surprised.

See you on the flipside....

Poll.

My answer: I look at the piles of crap I wasted my money on I have and I just want to throw it in the trash and start anew. The money I'll get from selling it probably won't be enough to cover the hassle.

[edit: how I REALLY feel about all this CRAP is in post #36]

What crap? :D

I bought with a very keen eye. I read a rulebook twice (usually) at my local Barnes and Nobles before making any purchase. I don't havea FLGS, so Barnes and Nobles has to do. I was very critical about editing errors and game rules in all the books I bought. As a result, I havea game I love with no wasted money. I honestly mean that. Every book on my shelf is one that I bought because I thought it was high quality. Every book not on my shelf is not there because it was either poor quality or not my style. So I love the books on my shelf, and am happy to have the game move on without me!

[Sblock=For those curious...]
My shelf:
PHB
PHB II
MM I
DMG
CW
CD
CArc
CAdv
CM
BoED
MotP
XPH
Drac

And various pdfs from Dreamscarred Press.[/Sblock]

All of my RPG materials occupy the bottom shelf of my one solid wall of bookshelves. Not because I'm in danger of using most of it at any given time, but partly because you can't help but notice it, and that is a devious way to get people that play RPGs to spot the books and speak up and start talking about playing one, and also to get non-gamers to ask questions.

I've got new editions next to old, games I've never played alongside favorites. It's as much a conversation piece as a resource. It almost got a whole group of non-gamers to start up a roleplaying group (and the only reason it didn't happen was because of some drama that has more or less caused that circle of friends to fizzle out - not because they got turned off or changed their minds. Characters were made and everything. But then general relationship-type stuff made everyone kind of wander off in their own directions.)

However, that said, I've pulled out my small stack of Dragon and Dungeon magazines since I started following 4e news (most of them are from around the time 3e was being released.) It's interesting to look back and see how the old news and speculation turned into the 3e game, now that we're getting news and speculation about 4e, and the Dungeons have given me a few interesting campaign or adventure ideas.

Throw away a book? Horrifying!

I will keep one copy each of the PHB, MM1 and DMG (like I've done for previous editions).

I will keep all campaign books unless they've been completely replaced by new material.

I will sell all non-core rulebooks. I've already sold most of the race/environment books, as well as extra copies of the core books. I got enough cash (from a used bookstore even) to pay for the last D&D mini set. :D

Oh, I will also keep Lords of Madness and Heroes of Horror. I can't imagine those will ever be worthless.

CRAP?!? Huh! I'm buying 3.5 books left and right (probably off some of you) at rock bottom prices. I expect to keep playing 3.5 until 5.0 comes out (in 2011).

Ditto. I just bought 10 books this month for like $70. And I expect to get a lot of 3.5/D20/OGL books for Christmas.

Since it's dumb to decide if I'm going to convert my gaming to an edition I haven't even seen yet, it's likewise dumb to make declarative statements about what I'm going to do with my 3.5 books.

Ask again after I've had a chance to read the rules, and I'm sure I'll have a better answer.

My 3.x D&D stuff is in the basement packed in boxes in my storage room- where it has been the last 3 years. 3.x sat wrong with me, and I found myself drifting further and further away from it. I've probably got 600-700 books sitting down there- I might go back and flip through them someday, but I barely even used 5% of them. I think, like Emirikol, I got caught up in the craze at the beginning, but found the system not to my liking after a while, and moved on to other games. The last 3 years, its been Savage Worlds, WHFRP, and the NWoD for me- I haven't really even touched D&D in that time, except for a brief period of playing in one guy's 3.5 game, and another 4 months of me running a 2E game.
