Half-Orc Fighter/Cleric:
Grey Cotton sorta baggy pants
Wool socks
Black, hard leather boots, mid-calf in height
Tunic
Bronze Breastplate, with hard leather taslettes and shoulder pieces
Grieves
Leather Gauntlets with Bronze re-enforcements
Cloak
and a Mowhawk.

The best article of clothing a character of mine ever had was an Ascott. But not just any ascott. It was an Ascott, Proof vs. Vorpal weapons. Nobody ever went Jaberwocky on that guy! We eventually named it, "The Fred", after the Scooby Doo character.

I'm running a character with some interesting items.

She's wearing a cloak she took from her (dead, by her hands) half bother, that functions as a bag of holding, of sorts. It also grants a +5 Enhancement Bonus to Intimidate. Under that she wears a traditional wool cloak for warmth.

She wears an open-back, long sleeved blouse, made of linnen. Ties in the front, so it can easily go from tasteful to revealing with the pull of a string.

Underneath that she wears a 2 piece suit of magical leathers, halter top and skirt, that are both rather tight and stark white. She wears clothig over them because, well, they're not only "too white for church" but the known travelnig 'uniform' of an order of priestesses, the Sisterhood of Light. She wears the Sisterhood leathers because they grant a +5 Enhancement bonus to Armor Class, and weigh significantly less than chainmail. (Think reslotted Bracers of Armor)

She wears a dull leather skirt over the Sisterhood leathers, to cover them up.

On her feet, she wears a pair of Elven Boots (+10 to Move Silently, +10 to Speed) she was given as a gift.

On her shoulder she carries an old leather satchel that's been through hell with her, nearly literally. It carries less than a backpack, but it's better for maneuverability.

She wears a pair of pouches on her belt, along with 2 Heavily Magical Scimitars, 2 Keen Stilettos (1d4 20(19)/x4, can't throw), and a Keen Dagger. she also keeps a Hip Quiver with arrows and her undsrung Composit Short Bow, and she has a pair of Saps in the extradimentional space in her cloak.

Of course, this is all soon to change, given that she's recently come upon the need to change her clothig instantly. An Alternate Form ability that doesn't alter clothing is VERY annoying, especially when you're normally 5'4" and can go upto 7'. She wears an open-backed blouse, and carries a satchel and not backpack, to accomidate the wings she's capable of growing. Take off Cloaks, put in satchel, fly.

Convienience is a must.

Highly polished and enammeled platemail, carved with runes and set with small purple gems. There are small holy symbols worked into the patterns, representing the 3 peaks of Grumbar. The symbols can be found only with effort . A luxerious black cloak, and brown earth colored muddy boots. The boots are sacred to Gumbar and very serviceable. His helm covers the top of his head, with chainmail covering the lower part of his face. He keeps a spare set of expensive clothes in the bank of Grumbar.

His clothes are a mask that he wears to deal with nobs, and hide his poor background. He tires to say little, and get away with looming whenever possible . When he ran a small temple branch, he paid a local to take care of the upkeep on his finery, now that he is adventuring again it is starting to show wear and stains that he is unaware of. After big fights he has occasionally casts make whole, but really has no idea how to upkeep his finery.

While traveling, Galethorn (a very tall and burly human warrior/ranger guy) wears the following...

A pair of heavy, dark brown trousers, a loose dark green shirt, a pair of worn black knee-boots, a knee-length blackish-brown jerkin, and an 'almost black, but actually olive green' leather duster, with an oilskin cloak for when it inevitably rains.

As for battle gear...

A mail hauberk, greaves and vambraces, an open-faced bacinet, and a dark blue, knee-length surcoat. Oh, and a longsword and shortsword on opposite hips, and a greatsword in hand.

Eek, thats a good un.

Let me think......

Underclothes,
Belt,
Pouches x6
Plate Mail +4 ( Bane Armour )
Light leather armour under that
Scabbard
with +5 Sword of Bane { broad sword } ( don't ask )
Quiver of arrows
4 daggers
White bow of Silverymoon +3
Darkwood bow of Evermeet +4
Bag of Holding, that holds Myth Drannorian Jade Plate Mail of the Knights, plus one or 6 swords, Studded leather armour +2 and a lot of full quivers.
Leather riding boots of Speed
Cloak of the Chameleon.

I think thats it.
I am a 13th level Elven Ranger, so you know. This is how long it's been since I roleplayed as a character. This is a 2nd ed. character.
Named Elwanystan Silvereyes, Knight of Myth Drannor
Stats were Str 22 Int 14 Wis 24 Dex 21 Con 16 Cha 16
They were altered by drinking from the fountain of the Gods

Standard WotC issue leathers comprised soley of buckles and straps.
A tap on the shoulder from a commoner: "Excuse me, are you an adventurer, or would you like me to tie you up and drip hot wax on you?"

;)

My last D&D character? Loincloth, face and body paint, bone jewelry, and feathers plaited in his hair. Hide shield as an accessory. Furlined cloak and moccasins if it got below freezing.

Her mother's a leatherworker, so miss gnome wizard wears well-broken-in dark brown leather pants and jacket with an abstract red and blue floral-ish design on the side-seams and front. There's a few spots where the chemicals she likes to mess with have discolored the leather, but the burned-through bits have been replaced over the years. Her mother sewed her name and address into the underside of the collar, which annoys Keswyn to no end. The jacket has bone clasps in the shape of leaves, but she mostly leaves it unbuttoned. Underneath she wears a light cotton sleeveless shirt in the summer, and itchy wool longjohns in the winter. Her boots are very dark brown leather, laced up to mid-calf height and rather scuffed, with reinforced toes. When traveling, she likes to wear an oilskin cloak that's just a little too big for her.

In addition to the usual spell component pouch, she carries a number of other small bags and pockets attached to her belt, which contain small vials for collecting samples, spare pencils, scraps of paper, interesting plants, old feathers, and strange alchemical substances, most of which are absolutely useless. She has lately taken to wearing a long glove on one arm, with buckles keeping it close to her skin at the wrist and above the elbow.
