What Fantasy rpg's, other than D&D, do people enjoy?

Some of my most memeroable campaigns come from:

- Ars Magica (every edition)
- Warhammer FRP
- GURPS Fantasy
- Shadowrun

I even had some good time in in 2nd AD&D.

For me, the systems holds minimal importance in enjoying the game. It is the campaign itself. Now a system will determine the boundries for the GM for a campaing, but it will be the story that will keep me going. And the people I am playing with.

I think d20 is nice basic system. DnD still is DnD, with all its cows (for good or bad) but d20 Modern and systems like Spycraft have realy made the d20 mechanic shine.

Staying strictly to fantasy I've got to go with Ars Magica, The Fantasy Trip (20+ years old and still ahead of our time in many ways), and WFRP.

I didn't consider Shadowrun to be strictly fantasy so I didn't list it.

As for The Fantasy Trip - that's just GURPS alpha version. It was the second system I ever played, and I have a lot of the books for it stored away here.

Non DnD product is usually better written with superior writers, but there just aren't that many options these days and none of the fantasy systems are cutting it for me at present.

When i play/run fantasy, I play only D&D mechanics. I have played many of the other games mentioned in the distant past.

When I play/run sci-fi I play Traveller.

When I play/run a blend of sci-fi/fantasy: Shadowrun.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Unknown Armies, a fantastic modern fantastic horror game, probably the best written main rule book I have ever read.

I ran it in a medieval fantasy setting and it ran like a dream.

Fun.

I really like MERPS when you have a GM that knows when to use all the tables, and when to ignore them and roll with the story. Though not fantasy, and not much different from previous D&D, I have a soft spot in my heart for Star Frontiers. And I played GURPS for the first time during some down time at GenCon SoCal, loved it; I think that had more to do with the GM (Paul Tervis, I believe) than the system, but from what I saw the mechanics were pretty smooth and, of course, versatile. The system seemed wonderfully transparent, such that my character could do what I wanted him to do with a minimum of rules details required. The actions in the story were more important than the rolling and statistics that simulated them.

Like playing:
Exalted
Shadowrun (it has elves, it's fantasy)
Cyberpunk (it has 1980s cultural prejudices, it's fantasy :) )

Like running:
Tribe 8
Exalted
and a bunch of stuff that doesn't fit "fantasy"

Talislanta
Hero - Champions, or Star Hero
Heavy Gear - Best Mecha game period
Delta Green - Usine CoC rules
Earthdawn - but kinda broke apart at higher levels, specifically magic

I can't emphasise Talislanta enough. . .so fantastic.

Runequest, Champions/Justice Inc./Fantasy Hero & Melanda.

I think Hero Wars had a lot of potential, but the holes were hard to fill.

Although I've never played it, I really like the Dying Earth RPG. I don't think I could play a campaign in Vance's world, but I would like someday to port the system to another campaign world with a slightly different flavor.

Ars Magica, first and foremost

Also have had fun with Everway, RuneQuest, and (briefly) a GURPS rendition of Tekumel.

I would love to try Agone and Nobilis
