What Happened to '[Insert 1E/2E Spell Name Here]'?

Thulsa Doom called. He wanted his gimmick back.

Heathen! ;)

That "spell" was first on the screen in The Ten Commandments, not Conan!

The Egyptian wizards threw their staves at Moses' feet, where they became serpents. Moses retaliated- his staff-snake eating the others.

The ones I miss? (Besides that one, of course)

Chromatic Orb, for one. And a lot of the ones that appeared in supplements, like Devastate, Thunderstrike, Weapon Immunity Bombard and Sandstorm from Old Empires. Countless others.

I miss me my good ol' Spiritwrack. Never actually saw it cast, but holy crap I loved reading the spell description. Seemed to have everything Jack Chick's been talking about all these years.

There were some other nice AD&D spells I sometimes miss:

Glas Steel (right? I have the german AD&D PHB where the spell is called Glasstahl).

Duo Dimension.

Nap (Sleep 1 hour, get the benefits of 8 hours of sleep, including refreshing spells! Overpowered...).

Summon Dust Devil (I think that has become somewhat similar to summon up a simple small air elemental).

You beat me to it.

You beat me to saying "beat me to it." ;)

Necromancer Games should really try to market that book as an update of various old classics as it contains several other first ed spells too.

Yup. Of course, some classics deserve to die. No "know alignment" for my game. ;)

Oddly, I miss a 2e spell from Spells & MAgic: Seven Eyes. That was a cool spell. The best offense is a good defense...

Write has returned as Amanuensis (Spell Compendium) Sor/Wiz0, but doesn't copy magical writing or maps.
Yup, on page 9 (it is also a Clr 0 spell).

The closest to an offical Affect Normal Fires ability goes to the Fire Genasi (who had the spell as a SLA in 2e). A similar text write-up exists in his stat-block, one COULD just finalize the rest from there.
Actually, in the Spell Compendium, the two parts of Affect Normal Fires have been broken out into Raging Flame (Drd 1, Sor/Wiz 1; p.164) and Slow Burn (Drd 1, Sor/Wiz 1; p.192).

Thank goodness they broke down that horribly overpowered spell! Not before time!

(IOW... Duh? Do they hate sorcerers or utility mages or something? What is wrong with having a spell which has more than one possible effect, eh?)

Cheers

Hey, I wanted to say thanks to everyone on this thread that mentioned Eldritch Sorcery. I just got it today, and at a glance, I like it. I'm still digesting it all.

It took me a while to realize that Eldritch Sorcery was a variant of the old Eldritch Wizardry. l was having a "duh" moment. ;)

Kudos to the guys at Necromancer on a job well done.

Death Spider. You know...the one that turned a target's hand into a giant spider that starts attacking him?

Loved that one.

If memory serves, know alignment was specifically called out in the Conversion Manual as having been eliminated from the game, along with arcane healing spells.
