What's Wrong With the Fen Hydra?

I dimly remember hearing about a year ago that the various MM1 Hydras were gorked in one way or the other. IIRC, the complaint was that they made poor solos, but I can't remember the specifics.

I'm specifically interested in the Fen Hydra. What's wrong with it? Can it be fixed? Has anybody tried to fix it?

Agreed with Dice4Hire.

But for me, the issue is that it isn't really well designed for what it is: A HYDRA.

It loses heads when stunned/dazed/etc? Boring.
 

The hydra suffers from some of the common problems with MMI solos. It has a lot of hitpoints but relativity low damage. So its a long fight with not a lot of thrill, especially since it has no major "OMG!!!" abilities.

I can say from experience the the MMII hydras are a lot better. I once hit my PC 7 times with a razor hydra.

I did something like 150 damage, which due to a bard power allowed the PC to live. But his jaw dropped when I told him he now had 45 ongoing damage!! I've never seen my party try to think of more ways to grant saving throw bonuses then at that moment.
