Weave? That's a Forgotten Realms setting specific fluff. All of this issue is setting specific fluff. The game will survive just fine if you add a new source, or allow combined sources in the same class.

What is a Spell?

A spell is a discrete magical effect, a single shaping of the magical energies that suffuse the multiverse into a specific, limited expression. In casting a spell, a character carefully plucks at the invisible strands of raw magic suffusing the world, pins them in place in a particular pattern, sets them vibrating in a specific way, and then releases them to unleash the desired effect—in most cases, all in the span of seconds.
Spells can be versatile tools, weapons, or protective wards. They can deal damage or undo it, impose or remove conditions , drain life energy away, and restore life to the dead.
Uncounted thousands of Spells have been created over the course of the multiverse’s history, and many of them are long forgotten. Some might yet lie recorded in crumbling spellbooks hidden in ancient ruins or trapped in the minds of dead gods. Or they might someday be reinvented by a character who has amassed enough power and wisdom to do so.

Sure.

But that's not the point.

The point is that many psionic fans do not believe psionic characters "twist the strands of magic into particular patterns".
If spells are "rigid blocks of magic formula" then any class who doesn't use "rigid blocks of magic formula" isn't using spells.

For example, wizards use spellbooks. That means at some level, spells use some sort of language that can be written down.
Some psionics fans would say that either psionics lacks a language or is another language completely.

Sure.

But that's not the point.

Except in the conversation I was having with Max, which is the one you quoted, it definitely was the point. Because he was making that point about not crossing the streams with power sources, remember?

Right. So you publish a single paragraph refluff describing this kind of magic as not being that kind of magic.

NOTHING IN THE GAME BREAKS IF YOU CHANGE THIS FLUFF. The way to change the language is to...change the language.

If it gets people to stop arguing about whether elves need to have +2 dex, I'm down.

but it would create another arguments about whether dog people could get a Cha bonus higher than +2 at the cost of an Int penalty or some other drawback.

"But it's unbalanced"
"but they are so good"
