Wheel of Time Discussion [spoilers are inevitable, fans only please]

Yup... that's it exactly.

So... four things.

Music - Thom (duh)

Fire - Rand? He's big on fire.

Courage - Probably Perrin, with his 'wolf's heart' and all

Iron - Probably Matt, considering the amount of daggers he usually carries around with him.

Good stuff. Can't wait!

Ohhps - forgot iron. That would be Perrin the blacksmith, IMO.

Ohh... even better. I can see him entering the tower with his blacksmith's hammer, smacking stuff around left and right.

Guess that would put matt in for courage, eh?

Mat, Courage? Yeah probably after all he has taken control of an army but I really dont see him as the one who would enter the Tower.

Perhaps

Thom (Music, Duh)
Perrin ( Iron)
Rand ( Possibly) Fire, or Moirraine herself
Faile (Courage), or Loial

Or it could be

Thom (Music)
Morriaine ( Fire)
And
Perrin( Courage, Iron)

lol

I think it is more likely to be the first one

Perrin, Thom, Moirraine who is already there, and Faile (which perrin will probably argue with, or Loial who is ready to run again to flee his future marraige

Ok, we will try this from a different approach --

What do you like about the game?

What do you not like about the game?

Was anything left out that you would have liked to see?

Did they put anything in that you would have preferred they leave out?

Rate the Game in the following catagories (1-10):

Innovation:

PS - Aldura the rogue Illuminator is most likely fire - especially since I think she and Matt are building a canon.

Isn't this the 'non-rpg' based discussion board though? A discussion about the WoT rpg should take place in the d20 system forum, not here.

I'll participate in the discussion if you post there, though.

The big question, as I see it, with purging the taint... is this going to "save" the people who are already a bit lost to the insanity? I mean... Rand is holding on by a thread at times. Granted, some of that is Mr. Voice in his head, but I have to believe some of that is the taint getting to him. Now that it's gone, are he (and others so afflicted) going to be all right? The physical sickness from channeling is gone, but are the two the same thing?

I don't wanna have to deal with a semi-insane Rand the rest of the way through the books :)

Overall, I really like RJ and the WoT series. My one gripe (other than the length) is how his own rules always seem to get broken.

I mean...

No way to heal stilling... except there is, when the plot demands it, via a "lost" ability.

No way to counteract the Oath Rod, except, again, when the plot demands otherwise.

No way to use the One Power within a stedding... except that there is, and Back In The Day (TM), those ter'angreal probably would have been fairly common (The whole reason men escaped to the steddings in the first place was that there could be no temptation there... but with those ter'angreal, that's not even true).

As an aside, regarding the game system: I like it well enough that I use that instead of Core DnD for my world. Magic System, defense bonus, latent gifts, etc. I think it does a very good job of rendering WoT within the d20 system, without resorting to a TOTALY new casting system. I mean, sure it can't (by the rules) do a lot of the main characters stats justice... but they are special, even the book says that some things are beyond stats.

Good question, that. I've been wondering about that myself. My guess is that it won't be able to retroactively cure anyone, but it'll halt the further deterioration of the male channelers. Another thought is that the taint will continue to exist until all of the tainted channelers have used all of their stored power. Sort of like a residual film.

Well... it was pretty obvious to me that this was going to happen. Otherwise they wouldn't have kept spouting out the "anything short of death can be healed' idiom. I like that it's not perfect yet though... but then how do you explain Logain's power and Suiane's lack thereof? My guess is that women have to heal men and vice versa for full power to return (despite the WoT rpg).

No way to counteract the Oath Rod, except, again, when the plot demands otherwise.

Well... this makes sense too. I would imagine that another oath gets added soon... "i vow never to renounce these oaths under pain of death" or something similar. But, then the oaths are still up in the air, now that it's been more or less determined that they cut down an Aes Sedai's lifespan by a significant amount.

No way to use the One Power within a stedding... except that there is, and Back In The Day (TM), those ter'angreal probably would have been fairly common (The whole reason men escaped to the steddings in the first place was that there could be no temptation there... but with those ter'angreal, that's not even true).

Consider the actual usage though... it wasn't in a stedding. Far madding is blocked off from the one power by some sort of massive ter'angreal that obviously somehow must use the one power itself. That being the case, the power is there, but difficult to tap. The ter'angreal belt well thingy obviously bypasses it. There's no guarantee that it would work in a true stedding.

I love the d20 WoT book... my problem is that I can't find anyone to play it with me!

I thought the ter-angreal belt thingie didn't bypass the wall to the Source, it just gave you an alternate, unblocked and highly limited Source to tap into.

Sorta like a ban on the sale of gasoline in town, but you brought a few emergency cartons of it.
