Where are you going for Thanksgiving?

my other half grabbed my MIL for a shopping trip and left me with her sister in law and brother.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Drink heavily.

I'm flying to San Francisco early Thursday morning. Joining my wife and her father who are already there. Spending Thanksgiving day at my wife's, cousin's in-laws. It is what it is. I'm renting a car so I'm not trapped. Looking forward to tooling around SF a bit. Great city.

My aunt's house on the other side of town :) I have a standing offer from a co-worker as well, in case that ever falls through. My aunt has a big spread every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Ya know what I'm thankful for? My wife's family all live right here in the immediate area, so they see each other all the time. There's no traveling to someone else's city and no hanging around pretending you can't wait to leave or you'd rather eat molten glass than stay another minute. We show up, we eat dinner, and 3 to 4 hours later, dinner is finished, the house is cleaned, and everyone goes home.

Popping over to my mom's sometime in the early afternoon. It'll be me, my mom and stepdad, my two younger brothers, my stepdad's crazy Polish mother and his sister, my awesome uncle (who's like a character from Dukes of Hazzard and usually gets ripped and starts poking fun at my mom's mother-in-law) and possibly one of his contractor buddies, my mom's old co-worker who's a true geek's geek, and our old hippie family friends from Berkeley and their daughter. We'll be feasting on BBQ'd turkey and all the trimmings. This year, by popular demand, the maternal unit's baking a huge apple crisp rather than apple pies, so we're all looking forward to that.

If I have time afterwards, I'll head across town and make a cameo appearance at my girlfriend's aunt's house, where she'll be dining with her family.

Well - The Universe and I will be celebrating with several of our friends from South Dakota that have made their way out east. It'll be a big South Dakota party with lots of food, win, and nerdery! We'll be gaming after all of the food is consumed and should make for one festive day.

THAT sounds like a lot of fun. I am so jealous.

We were planning on driving to Akron, OH to see my sister-in-law, but several things have conspired against that trip. I get a long well with my in-laws, but was not looking forward to the long drive. We have spent a fortune fixing the car lately and need new tires, so no money to travel right now. I have also been pretty sick for over a week.

So, here it is, Thanksgiving Day. Last year, we had a house full of in-laws and my parents got bent out of shape and didn't come over (they live 4 miles away, the in-laws came from Buffalo, NY and Winter Haven, FL). SO, I am still a bit angry over my parents' petty behavior, but we are going to eat with them at Cracker Barrel this afternoon. That is all we have planned.

How much longer 'til meltdown?

i survived.

travel yesterday was incredibly trouble free. no lines at the airport. no traffic coming home. no problems at all.

got to sleep in my own bed.

woohoo. and no in laws for at least another month.

I'm still mid-transit. We got from Boston MA to Scranton PA yesterday, but we still have a few hours to go before home.

I'm going 15 minutes down the road to my in-laws. Which is cool with me, because my mom-in-law is an excellent cook! My Mom, sister, and grandmother are also driving down from NY for the weekend and will be going with us. Laura's grandmother, aunt, uncle, and a few cousins will also be there, so it'll be a full house for Thanksgiving dinner.
I think this is so cool - your family and your wife's family all coming together. :) That's the stuff warm fuzzies are made of. I try to make it work with my family and the hubby's family, but my family is a little crazy and his family is... well... pretty much like the Cleavers.

Or a movie with Chevy Chase.

Good to hear, Diaglo. Just think, in another month you get to do this crap all over again!

My vacation went alright as well. Although I feel sorry for my sister-in-law having to listen to my fiancee's aunt drone on and on about her cats and diseases and stuff all Thanksgiving night. We treated her to a movie Friday night for being the sacrificial lamb!

I hope everyone had a safe holiday.
