Where are you? Actually, don't tell me - I'll tell you where you are. Not you, specifically, of course - but "you" as an anonymised aggregate.

"What's Morrus blathering on about this time?" is probably near the tip of your tongue right now. Well, WotC recently asked if I (along with, I assume, other large web communities of gamers) would be able to pull an anonymised list from Google Analytics of where the busiest towns and countries were in terms of traffic as a tool to help them focus their D&D Encounters and other efforts. Making sure they're taking D&D where the people are, so to speak. I figured you might also find the info interesting.

These are top 50 cities and countries in terms of visits over the last month. That's not to be confused with page-views (much higher) or unique visitors (lower) - it's the number of times someone visited the site, browsed for a while, and then left.

So, if you're looking for a hotbed of gaming activity, here's one list. Other lists may exist, but this is EN World's list.

As a side note - this data is completely anonymous. It just shows totals, not individual users. Nobody is able to look at it and determine where *you* are - just which cities have a lot of gamers in them.

Spot check. How can Houston be almost the same as Portland? Houston has over three times as many people as Portland (2.1 million vs. 580,000)?

I dunno what BC means, but on the map it looks kinda on the left of continental North America, roughly at US/Canada border level in a big splodgy kinda way.

Well, the former looks like the same big orange blodge as Victoria was. The one at #136 is.. yeah, off to the left, too, but lower. I couldn't tell you what Portland or Oregon was, or if it's there!

Somebody - anybody! - buy this man a world atlas for Yule!

Firstly, I'd like to thank Morrus for the information. It's very interesting.
Secondly, I'd like to note that it's not fully correct (which is not his fault!). I went to whatismyipaddress.com/ and it says the wrong city (located 61 mi from my city, in a different region). I'm at work right now, but I'll check what info my home PC gives.

It's no biggie. We are talking about peanuts here, really, but I was just disappointed not to find my city from the list (which is not Morrus' fault).

I tried to use the general metropolitan areas for the numbers, since people in the suburbs might be considered part of the city. By that reckoning Portland has a couple million. Although I might have missed the number for the larger Houston area, which would likely tank their ratio.

It's hard to be sure without knowing how the data was collected. If it's metro area or not, and if that's consistent or varies between city.
