I voted 3.0 since that is what I play when it is D&D. Lately though I been playing more Hero 5th and Fantsy hero, with a occasional pickup Harp game thrown into the mix.

I just converted to 3.5 because I got the PHB and DMG for free, essentially. My FLGS owner is awesome and made some great trades with me because I had stuff he knew he could move very easily. So my entry fee for 3.5 is going to be like 30 bucks, if that...

I haven't seen a lot of conversion issues that need addressing. Just change out the spells and cut DR in half and blammo, problem solved and since I was using the D&D minis ANYWAY, hey ho badda bing badda boom.

I needed to get new books anyway, mine are starting to fall apart at the spine. I am very rough with my books and I just like the look of the new books so much more, they seem sturdier and aren't filled with as many errors as my 1st printings.

We've moved to 3.5E. It generally cost the players $20 (if they got to the Gamekeeper going-out-of-business sale in time) so cost wasn't a real factor in the decision.

OTOH, I wanted to try the re-balanced classes (which I think are clearly better) and the fixes to certain overpowerful spells. And to see what new material ended up in the extra 50 pages. ;-)

I was surprised how many changes there are though; every game I find something that has changed since 3E. Having to relearn everything is a bit of a burden.

Latest discovery: What happened to "called shot" and/or the ability to attack something that an enemy is holding? Gone, as far as I can tell.

sunder feat in 2000ed

they even have improved sunder now in 3.11ed for workgroups.

called shot was 2edADnD.

although, it was included in OD&D supplement and 1edADnD under the helmet rules. just didn't have a name. ;)

Oh, it's still there, I saw it just the other night, under "attack an object" or something. Somebody will give you a page number in a minute, I'm sure.

I was just wondering how many people made the jump from 3e to 3.5...

Demiurge out.

The poll suggests that we all paid retail. My FLGS had the three new core books for half price with preorder. Thus, our group was able to upgrade for less than $50 with tax. Needless to say we are motivated to shop our FLGS in return for their generosity.

Well I run under 3e, and gave my players the option of switching over to 3.5 at the time. That was a year into a roughly 2 year estimated plot cycle. They said no uniformly and so we didn't switch over, though once the game is over I'll give them the option again.

Frankly though I still buy all the books since the difference between 3 and 3.5 isn't that much. If I see something that looks good in 3.5 I may house rule it, though most of the house rules I already had in effect covered most of the 'good' alterations in 3.5. Unstoppable hybrid in a limited sense. ;)

Though irony has it most of the books I use to prep the game are 2e... *grin*

Called Shots are hard to handle in an HP system. How do you do it? Multiplying the damage without a substantial penalty overpowers the called shot. If the penalty is too great then nobody will want to try it as the bonuses are outweighed by the negatives. Very hard to use judiciously, so it was dropped from the game.

The QUintessential Monk has called shot rules, but I call the book into question. It sure is nifty, but dang is there a lot of geekiness in that book... the Flying Guillotine alone is scary.

How I handle called shots is I don't.
