Who's happy about MMV being MMIV again?

Well, according to this THREAD , it appears that Monster Manual V is going to be another Monster Manual IV.

Anyone happy with that? I really do not want another set of monsters from Monster Manual I modeled with stupid class combinations and names like "Goblin Cook" and "Drow Gigolo" to be 25-30% of the book.

I also hope they've learned to decrease the font size to squeeze in more monsters. It's sad to see the last 224-page Monster Manual have less creatures than the paperback Monsters of Faerun.

I'm sure those of you that like MMIV are going to be ecstatic about MMV, but I know those of you that hated MMIV are probably outraged at this display yet again...

Given how much I liked MMIV, yeah, I'm pretty happy.

Although I'm more interested in "Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk"!

Razz just needs to work it out of his system. Should take 4-6 months. After all if he doesn't like it then it must suck.

I hated the idea of class-levelled monsters in MMIV. In practice, though, I've found that those stats are probably the best thing about the book. They're things that are actually likely to be used, whereas the new monsters mostly seem too oddball to see much use. Where I think they fell down, though, was in including only low-level monsters of the type (where the low-levels are the easy ones to do), and sticking with 'easy' combinations (I don't need MMIV to do a "Drow Ninja 4" for me).

So, provided MMV doesn't repeat races covered in MMIV, and provided it doesn't include 25 types of "Spawn of Bahamut", I think I'll be happy.

I'm very happy about it. MM IV has been laid out behind my DM screen nearly every other session since its release at GenCon and has proven invaluable. I say: yay.

That depends what you mean about being done like MMIV means.

If it means Psionics gets to remain the redheaded stepchild, no I won't be happy.

If it means pre-developed challenges, I'm fine with that.

I'm ok with it, because I don't think there's anything at all wrong with the format that was in MMIV, and appears to likely be in MMV. In fact I rather like that format. However I never purchased MMIV because it was largely filled with gobs of Spawn of Tiamat, previously printed monsters with added class levels that I could have done by myself in my spare time, and yugoloths that appeared to have been written without any prior research on their species as a whole.

The format is fine, but depending on the choices of monsters and to a lesser extent the writing, it's going to be really good, or fall flat on its face. I'm hoping that MMV doesn't make the mistakes of MMIV.

Well there is a mind flayer on the front. I'll bet you see a barbarian before you see a psi-warrior.

And, we'll still be stuck with the one size fits all approach to challenges. And the double standard defense of DMs can't possibly be expected to add classes themselves because it is such an overwhelming burden, but asking for more than one level is not reasonable because it is too simple for a DM to just do that themself......

sigh

I'm happy. I prefer fewer, more detailed monsters (plus sample lairs and NPCs) to more, less detailed monsters.
