Why are monkeys being given treasure?

Wizards of the Coast conducted a study of Role-players' purchasing habits and determined that RPG games and supplements with a primate on the cover sell significantly better.

That perfectly explains this new trend towards magical anime dragon monkeys:

Monkeys are clearly the meta-game mechanic for wealth.

Wait, I'm confused.

When we need to gear up our new 4e characters, do we pay in monkeys?

Or do we pay to the monkeys?

It's probably the latter . . . . damn, dirty apes,er, monkeys . . . .

I wonder if Noonan realizes that his Monkey reference will never die. I predict that in 8-10 years, when we're all complaining about the imminent approach of 5th edition, people will still be making monkey jokes in reference to treasure.

D&D 4th Edition, better known as Monkey Dungeons and Dragons or MD&D.

EDIT: Monster Manual, ha!. Now its the Monkey Manual. Dungeon Master => Dungeon Monkey. Is it true they are replacing Gnomes with Monkeys as a playable race in the PHB?
