Why hate 3eR before it comes out?

Why is it some people hate a product six months before it even gets released? Wait and see, then make the decision to hate it or not, but it seems that anytime there is a change people get so upset over nothing its ridiculous. Plus, 90% of all those that hate it now will love it when its released after they look at it, so for all those that hate it, take a chill pill and relax, and enjoy what is already provided for you.

EarthsShadow,

People sometimes hate and fear what they don't understand. Some fear change, or that a new product or idea will harm them in some manner. Others may be content with things as they now stand, and see no need for change and view it with suspicion. Or they may fear the new rules will be inferior and harm their game.

For the record, I have had more than a few debates with my group over 3rd edition rules. So, I think the new rules may possibly be a good idea. One thing that gives me cautious optimism is that some of the changes have been made in response to players.

Considering some of the darker days of the old TSR, having designers and management actually care for any opinion by players is an improvement. (Can some share a few horror stories from that era.) At least now we have play testing, and designers and management who will talk to their customers. (If you can find it, Ryan Dancey had a wonderful internet article on why TSR went under. Essentially, they failed to listen to their customers.)

Of course, one can download the SRD the SAME DAY tha the new books are released.

I have known a few veteran players who have grumbled that some of the rules should have been better written, and that some things seem stranged. (Rangers, in particular, seem to be heavily front loaded.) Of course, like many things in life, this is a matter of perspective.

Many people do use their own rules, but the published books seem to serve as a (pardon the pun) "common language" for people who play in different campaigns. So, there are some headaches for people coming into new campaigns with different DMs and players.

Of course, I think WoTC should start sending out some of the design team members to frequent the message boards.

This is what I hate about it... rather than print a single 30 dollar book with the errata and changes in it... which I'd likely purchase without batting an eye... they have chosen to make me repurchase ALL the core books again, including what they haven't changed at all.

I hate the lowlife marketing tactic being taken... I hate that since the gamerrs in my community will pick them up, if I'm going to play with them I'll have to pick up the books... I feel like I'm being railroaded into paying 100 dollars for 80% material I already have... this is why I hate 3.5e. I think WotC is being money grubbing jerks and it reeks of what made me quit playing MtG years ago... change for changes sake... change JUST to milk more money out of the customer.

And before anyone gives me that SRD b.s. you've got to be kidding... the SRD is of NO practical use now and I doubt it will get any better with the new revision. ONline RTF documentation is of NO use at the Gaming table unless you have DSL and a cmoputer in the gaming area... which costs even MORE money for their changes.

I dont hate 3.5e I hate WotC... if I knew enough gamers in my area who felt as I did I start up a new group... ignore 3.5 and WotC alltogether and give my money to another d20 company... one whos putting out useful, interesting new stuff and NOT trying to railroad me into repurchasing my shelf of gaming material again... do any of you really think that if it sells they wont do it again in another year or so? And if you don't think they will has anyone ever called you Polly-Anna?

Uhh, this is just a thought, but maybe you could print out the revised SRD. If nobody has a printer, go to a copy store and print it out there. Trust me, the copy stores aren't owned by WotC, so they won't be seeing any of that money. :D

Still its money that WotC is forcing me to spend... tonar cartridges, or Kinkos its an expense I shouldn't have to spend.

I resent being ripped off... I resent WotC.

I essentially agree with you on this. I am a little suscpicious that they have to reprint all 3 core books, now at a 'slow" time in the RPG market. Cynically it seems like a revenue generating move. Time and the things that are changed will tell. And whether you are "forced" to buy it will also be made clear when we all see how compatible original 3e wil be with future products.

But on the other hand, it does sort of bother me that they are listening, in a matter of speaking. While I like the fact that Wizards admits that there is room for improvement and change based on customer feedback, I fear this sets a precedence of sorts where a large part of the community can agitate for something long enough and loud enough and WoTCwill change it. I'll admit I'm probably being a bit paranoid in this, but the squeaky wheel does get the grease and all that.

Daiymo, more good and valid points all of which fuel my hatred.

By the way you are most definitively NOT being paranoid... if it makes them a dollar they'll do it.
