Why Wizards are better than Sorcerers, and other stories

And despite all those added features they gave the wizard, the sorcerer still manages to kick his #$%^&!.

:)
A wizard that actually manages to lose to a sorcerer is a disgrace to wizardry in general.

I'd have to say, as a player I prefer the monk to just about any class, ..., he can even tank for a short time.

Hey, my Sorceress can tank for a REALLY short time, too. :p

But that's not so unlikely... since the sorcerer has all stuff ready, while the wizard might not be well-prepared for the situation. ;)

Anyways, it's just a matter of who wins initiative, really... :p

And, Liquidsabre, sorcerers can cast quickened spells, too!

advantages of sorcerer
- spontaneous casting

advantages of wizard
- more spells

advantages of pirate/monk
- immune to scurvey
-if set on fire can use slow fall to reach ocean
-no armor to sink
-doesn't need to find a belaying pin or hook to use as weapon
-can jump off mast w/o rope
-immune to saucey wench related diseases
-can still have peg legs, parrots or monkeys, and say ARRGG Matey
-peg leg can count as magic/law weapon for overcoming dmg resistance
and also be used to stake vampires

Mages (from the revised edition of Elements of Magic) are better than wizards because they can make their own spells up of whatever power level they need at the time, and they can learn healing spells. Plus, they're not tied to a Vancian-esque preparation ruleset, so you can learn any sort of magic from whatever source you want. And you can kill people with Time*.

* or Acid, Air, Balance, Chaos, Crystal, Death, Earth, Evil, Fire, Force, Good, Ice, Lava, Law, Life, Light, Lightning, Metal, Mist, Nature, Ooze, Shadow, Sound, Space, Void, or Water.

For Mages vs. Clerics, as above, except replace 'they can learn healing spells' with 'they can learn powerful attack, illusion, movement, and transformation spells.'

For Mages vs. Sorcerers, as above, except replace 'Vancian-esque preparation ruleset' with 'limited selection of spells.'

I myself prefer a monkey to a parrot. It can do all sorts of things parrots can't and when it gets naughty I can spank it. :]

Honestly, in Skull & Bones you can take the monkey or parrot as a feat (I can't remember the exact name) and it is great for getting you out of trouble.

It's called Monkey/Parrot Magnet...MEG Hal looooves monkeys...

Versatility. I love having a broad selection of spells to choose from, and potentially getting to learn every spell in the book. Getting second level spells at 3rd level is just a psychological necessity for me :) Also getting the meta magic feats doesn't hurt. At least there are reasons to stick with this class after first level and not instantly dumping it for a prestige class. You don't get much as a Sorcerer after 1st level to encourage you not to drop it for a +1 spell casting level prestige class.
