Why?

According to IMDB, he has a doctorate in literature.

And also there, I found out he had a Wikipedia entry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll

Which explains the tax thing, and informs us that he's written two books including "Wie man in Deutschland einen Film drehen muss" which apparently explains his movie making philosophy.

I almost hate to see him stop making movies, though. I mean, he is awfully fun to make fun of. And he doesn't seem to mind that, either.

Judging by the title I'd guess the book will be more technical than philosophical. Which is a shame, really - it'd be fun to hear from Boll himself what makes a movie great.

Then again, it's about movie making in Germany. And, as everybody knows, there aren't any great German movies ;)

Hey, I can say that - I'm German :p

Without going too heavy into politics... if Boll wouldn't exist, the German government would invent him.

Well, not after the the invention of sound, no.

Except Das Boot.

Plus, you gave us Derrick. Gotta love Derrick.

Yeah, usually things in German sound far funnier in English (and vice-versa, like the JFK speech) than what was actually meant. Since the two languages are close enough a lot of words sound similar, but different enough to have completely different meanings of similar phoenetic words.

There's an article from the people who wrote the original Alone in the Dark script, which supposedly contains some emails from Dr. Boll

I think that might be a bit harsh, there are certainly some... ("Lola rennt", I'd consider that one great). Though German movies certainly have no real chance competing with the big hollywood productions - and considering how many hollywood movies are far from great, this indicates how difficult it will be to find a lot of great German movies. :)
I am afraid there will never be a good German movie for the favored genres on this board - Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Quite possible :)

Why not? There's a fair number of low budget British films that compete very well every year. They're a bit of a niche market, it's true, but it seems every year there's one or two that is a mass market success.

Lets see whats coming down the poop shute as I like to call where his movies emerge from.

BloodRayne, Hunter: The Reckoning, Postal, Fear Effect, Dungeon Siege, Far Cry, and several others he has acquired the movie rights to. His Boll KG company slogan proudly declares itself to be the "World Market Leader in Video Game Adaptations." He is currently in a bidding war for rights to Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid, and recent online interviews suggest that he may be after the rights to Fallout and Castlevania as well.

Ewwwww Bowel must be stopped, now.
