His Boll KG company slogan proudly declares itself to be the "World Market Leader in Video Game Adaptations." He is currently in a bidding war for rights to Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid, and recent online interviews suggest that he may be after the rights to Fallout and Castlevania as well.
Where's a caped avenger, driven to operate outside the bounds of law and defend decent citizens against criminals, as the result of profound childhood trauma involving flying rodents and the death of his parents, when you need one?

Plus, you gave us Derrick. Gotta love Derrick.
And Der Alte. Can't mention the one without the other.

Those two are on continuous reruns here for a good reason. Best cop shows on the planet.

It's funny... I never cared much about those two shows. The people always seem to be so... unrealistic. The language they use (in German, obviously) seems very artificial. On the other hand, I am probably not part of the society typically involved in Derrick/Der Alte cases, and I am more a sci-fi fan, and usually ignore other shows. I like some of the Tatorts, though..
One of the positive aspects of all these shows that they keep the "action" to a realistic limit, unlike a lot of other shows...

Why not? There's a fair number of low budget British films that compete very well every year. They're a bit of a niche market, it's true, but it seems every year there's one or two that is a mass market success.

One reason: the Brits got a sense of humor.

Mars needs more Franke Potente.

Franka Potente was best in Bourne Supremacy. Because, well, she's shot. In the head.

And I never liked Lola Rennt. That's just 70 minutes of film school showoff.

Well, not after the the invention of sound, no.

Except Das Boot.

Ok, Das Boot was decent.

I liked Derrick and Der Alte when I was a kid. And Derrick had some nice catchphrases. But that's about it.

I'd guess that both shows are internationally successful because they show a pretty cliché view of Germany - it's all grey and very depressing.

Of course the "action" is limited. People in these shows are way too bored to move faster than slow motion.

I can't speak for the rest of Germany, but both Berlin and Münich were very
grey and depressing when I was there. :p

Everybody knows all the action is in Austria. That's where Kommissar Rex is.

A television classic.

Isn't Boll under investigation by INTERPOL for being involved in a money laundering scheme?
If I were in charge, that'd a minor offense in comparison to making a bad Fallout movie.
