I *love* that they will have pretty covers. Despite that disturbingly true statement, I am now seriously doubting the relevance of 4e to me and my world in these here parts.

Nonetheless, I will buy the core books without even opening the damn things. Alright? Yes, I might have compulsive tendencies. Sometimes.

Not everything.

I will buy the core books only just in case I find an awesome adventure done in 4e that need to translate to 3.5.

Otherwise....I have about 2000 dollars in 3.0/3.5 books alone. I have YEARS of adventures planned already. Maybe I'll switch at 8e. :D

Will I buy them? Almost certainly but I won't buy them blind. I eagerly await the previews and snippets of info.

The only thing I am worried about it is how the DI works exactly. But we shall see in time.

To be honest, it would have to be a lot better than the 3.5 books I already have for me to make that investment again.

Seems too soon for another edition to me.

Given my buy history, I have strong doubts I will buy any 4E material.

I bought a lot of 3E but very little 3.5 material.

Basically the game is going in a direction that I do not have much interest in. I would either want a nostalgic game (eg, C&C or maybe Rolemaster) or a more revolutionary game like many of the indie games (eg, Burning Wheel, The Shadow of Yesterday or Sorcerer)

There is chacne it might impress me, but I doubt it, though, I will take a look at it when it comes out.

Won't be buying it. My players have refused to have anything to do with a new edition, and thus me buying it will be pointless.

Of course I'm going to buy it. However, this time around I think I might stick to the core books only. Why? Two reasons:

1. I have a mountain of 3E and 3.5 materials that I've been collecting and using for the last seven years, and I expected to have at least another three years before I had to start the endless buying loop all over again. Heck, I just picked up Spell Compendium last month. Rules Compendium is coming, along with a bunch of other 3.5 books, and they're announcing 4E? I don't like that. I know people have to eat, but I still don't like that.

2. The splatbook overload has lead to some problems at the table. Namely the rhino's rush spell in Spell Compendium combined with a half-orc ranger, power attack, a greataxe, improved favored enemy and combat brute from Complete Warrior, and great leap from Complete Adventurer. It's as if designers aren't even considering other books. I'm seriously considering only sticking to the core books, both to save me some money and keep things in line at the table.

I might not want to buy a fourth Player's Handbook, but I will so as to stay on board with modules and such, but I'm tired of having to buy all my books again every 7-8 years.

I'll get the core books for sure, but after that ... who knows?

Having enough 3.X material to last me for years or even decades, I don't need 4e.

If some concept, the style or mechanics really grab me - like a lot of stuff in 3E did - I'll switch, but will try to restrain my buying habit.

If it tastes like 3.7.5 or something like that, I'll only get me some interesting sounding titles and probably be ending up with a system combining elements of different editions.

If it leaves me wondering, I'll gladly pass up on 4E and start to hunt down older books I don't have as of yet.

All in all I'm very curious and really looking forward to see it. Until then I try to remain open-minded and not fall into the trap of assuming WotC will definitely do something horrible.

What's worrying me more is this DI thing. With only 2-3 gaming sessions per month and me probably not buying most of the books, it feels like an expensive luxury, but with me being one collector-type of guy, I'll still be tempted to try it.

Yep

Yeah, I will buy it, each edition since I started 28 years ago has been better and better. I have been expecting this for some time and am looking forward to it. (I DID bitch when the rumors started though, mainly because of the $$$$ I have spent on D&D 3.-3.5, and 2nd edition).

Here I go again feeding the 100 dollar bills to the slot machine that is WoTC. :p

Also, the online table for gaming is a very good idea, and I like it.

Of course this is all as of this time, have to wait and see how it really turns out.
