You are correct; I haven't looked at set lists.

Stil have no interest in playing, but may now go to Ebay, see if I can get some of the Cthulhu figs for cheap. :)

I am one of the moderators on the WizKids boards. (Same handle there as here.)

The forums that are moderated (BSG: General, WK: General Discussion, Pirates: General Discussion that I can think of right now) are like that right now because we were getting spambots that were posting really inappropriate stuff in those forums. With the old method, we caught some stuff as soon as it was posted, but a lot of complaints were received on threads that we didn't get to quick enough.

This method of waiting for us to approve posts in those forums was always to be a temporary measure while they were trying to work on a solution to stop those spambots. And their work on this problem is what caused the forums to be down for a few days a while ago, and is the reason that they are going to be down again today and tomorrow. They are trying to fix these problems.

Steel_Wind, I've approved many negative messages in those forums. The only posts that I won't approve are spam posts. I can't say that I saw your post, but there is no way that I would have deleted it since it had content.

Now, once posts are in the forums, if another moderator, or a WK employee decides that it is inappropriate, or violates forum rules then they might move it to their Archive forum (they are not supposed to delete posts or threads that are pulled), and I'm sure you would hear about it via warning points for violating forum rules.

They/we are quite lenient at allowing negative posts as long as they aren't rants that cross the line into attacks on others or name-calling. Calling WK staff liars, for instance, rarely tends to go well but people do it.

You might have different views on how they should handle their forums, but I'm sure they've put thought into the various options that they had. They were not prepared to allow the spambots posts to be displayed and then pulled - the questionable content on family boards was worse then temporarily inconveniencing the other posters. It is the decision that they made.

As for the cancellation of the BSG ccg, it is very unfortunate, but they do have their reasons for it.

Thanks for the response and the explanation. I do find it very odd though why I had to ultimately complain about the Wizkids forums on ENWorld before I received a reply or any explanation at all.

I am quite sure they did think about it. And you see, that's the problem. Their thoughts are the reason that I am not going to purchase a single thing from Wizkids ever again.

They are selling games and are enabling discussions about those games over the Internet. An internet full of spam and brimming with porn.

There is not a single user on these forums I wager - not one - who has not received direct e-mail spam concerning:

  • penny stock manipulation scams;
  • drugs to make our peckers, harder, longer, or one's semen to increase in volume; or
  • some mail advertising a tart on some webcam, somewhere, who'll do whatever perverted thing we ask her to do as long as we have a credit card number at the ready.

And the people "complaining" about the spam on the forums get it in their inbox too.

That's the reality of the internet on which Wizkids LLC has decided to do business. It's the same reality for everybody else, too.

When they came up with this policy, they decided that the offence a few might take to the spam of others outweighed the great inconvenience of having to wait 12 or 36 hours for a post to appear, the disabling of links and the deletion of information to any off-site source.

As if they were selling My Little Pony and the internet was not inter-connected.

In short, they valued the potential outrage of a few wingnuts over something they didn't do (post spam), over the anger and inconvenience of their paying customers over a deliberate choice that Wizkids LLC actually made.

And that's where they lost my money. Right there. And it is a decision that does not deserve much respect or understanding, imo.

The whole internet operates in the same environment - and I have not seen anybody else institute such a ridiculous policy.

If you favor the sensitivities of a few over the convenience of many, you make the wrong decision. You are not trying to promote your game - you are trying to avoid any negative reaction on the part of anybody to your game. A very different set of priorities. But they are not selling My Little Pony or the Care Bears. They are selling games based around blowing crap up.

And when I attempted to post that very complaint in the above paragraph - they refused to post it.

And that is why they have lost any chance at getting more of my money. It's gone - and it's not coming back.

Deleting posts from people complaining about the game lines or how the staff are handling things, is not a new thing. Well, least not on the MW section. Perhaps its just new to the forums you use steel_wind. I find it ironic though that the entire forums just got disabled for "maintenance" again, for the next two days apparently, right after they announced a line cancellation. This is a repeat behaviour for something they did a month ago right after another announcement which was sure to generate debate and criticism (constructive wouldn't matter, since as you pointed out, they don't even tolerate suggestions on how to improve things a lot of the time).

The fact this inconveniences players of the other lines, who might have sanctioned tournaments to attend in the next couple days which they might wanna have rules questions answered for, or ask for advice on forces to field, etc.... nevermind, players aren't important (except when they spend more money). Just so long as nobody can badmouth the company on forums that other players will see.

Or... where topps management/shareholders might see more importantly.

Topps btw is being bought out by Michael Eisner's new company.

Latest Wizkids silliness going on... they're talking of eliminating the rules arbitrator position from one line's forum because apparently all he ever does is respond with quotes and references from the rules and FAQ's in response to questions, and that's usually days later. This is comical since all the RA's work in a similar way... taking days to come up with a response usually, and often going "I'll have to ask the designers" instead of actually giving a ruling like their job description says to do. Or they just ignore questions long enough for the players who asked to give up on waiting.

Also for MW in particular, there's a change in formats for the game apparently taking place this year, where "solaris VII" is gonna be the new direction of the game instead of the story driven arc they'd been directing the game in for the past few years. Solaris VII is a world where gladiator combat goes on, for spectators, involving battlemechs. So the future of the game is apparently totally in mech on mech combat, and this year's world championship will be fought under Solaris rules, even though they're not actually releasing the rules until a few weeks before the worlds actually take place. This is not making many players very happy.

In other not making players happy land, the canadian nationals this year are basically becoming meaningless to even attend because the format for the finals has been announced as being you swap your army with your opponent. That's right... whatever you design will get used against you. Can you see the nationals for magic or ANY other collectible game line being fought that way ? The reigning world champion (whose also canadian) as well as the second and third top players of the game in the world are against this event's rules, as are most everyone else who responded about it, and then one of the wizkids staff idiots locked the thread because people were....omg...daring to complain about the silly arsed rules.

Instead of the top 16 players who make the finals (which given that attendance at the canadian nationals for MW was only 26 players last year, and its shrunken each year, likely means almost everybody this year) fighting it out with a strategy of building their BEST army... its gonna be a stratergy of building the most turkey army they can screw over their opponent with.

Not true. I've read the job description (and applied to a couple of the positions at various times). You are required to have a weekly conference call with the designer to go over any issues and sticky questions. In fact, it's assumed you won't answer any questions that aren't clear and bring them up with the designer during this call and then communicate them to the forums, FAQ, etc.

The game with the rules won't be released until a few weeks before it. I'll wager the rules will be available online well before that (although I personally haven't seen any direct comments about this myself).

It's a very fun format, I've used it (in fact, I may have been the one to first suggest it as a scenario). Not very appropriate for Worlds. Then again, WizKids has always given a lot of leeway to people running qualifiers outside the U.S.

I'm almost sure it wasn't because people were complaining about the rules, but because of the way certain people were complaining.

Plus, IIRC this year anyone can attend worlds (or is that just Nationals) without needing to qualify.

Also, may I add that I've never seen a WizKids rules arbitrator refuse to answer a question by linking to a thread that links to a number of other sources. If it's in the FAQ they'll state that, but then they'll answer the question.

...So you bumped up a month dead thread to continue to complain about the direction of a game company that doesnt even produce an RPG? :uhoh: I cant help thinking that there may be more productive avenues for your venting then here.
