Woohoo, I think! (was: Advice Please?)

I need to ask some advice. I'm really bad with this sort of thing...

OK, yesterday at work I got the number of this girl I work with, who's pretty good-looking. Anyhow, I'm conflicted on what to do. It's legal and it's not like I'll be sent off to jail or anything (IYKWIMAITYD), but on the other hand I'm freaked out by the difference-in-age thing (8 years BTW).

I don't know... personally I always feel afraid of being judged by people (I know, funny coming from a geek, isn't it?), especially my parents. I always feel I have to "be acceptable"... and that dating a younger girl will make me not acceptable. But then another part of me says that I should forget what anyone else would think, and go with my own thing. Then the first part replies that I can't really do that, if it's my parents...

So anyway, I'm very perplexed. Care to offer an opinion? And please, not just 'get a ******* backbone, ya wuss'... at least say it in a nicer way.

8 years means different things at different age groups. for instance a 38 and a 30 year old is not considered bad at all, while an 18 and a 26 year old might be seen as problematic.

It depends really on too many factors then just age, so I say go for it as well.

Suzi's 7 years younger than me and she's perfect. I would not have believed that such bliss is possible without experiencing it personally. She was barely 20 when we started dating.

Ask the lady out, focus on having fun, and see what happens. If you both like each other, who cares what others think?
