Okay, so I know that it's not a book per se, but we didn't have Paizo Publishing in general as an icon. Got home today from a heartbreaking tutorial session with a poor kid who's got a learning disability and parents who don't treat him right, the kind of session that makes me want to just lie down, curl up in a ball, and forget about people for awhile.

Instead, when I opened my e-mail, I found a note from Dave Gross at Amazing Stories, informing me that he was buying one of my short stories!

Amazing what some good news about a 2,600-word short story about a dude with a talking story will do for your evening...

Thanks, guys! Sorry for horn-tooting -- I was pretty much bouncing around the room and posting to, uh, just about every board I frequent.

No clue when it'll be out -- I know that their first (since coming back) issue is slated for July, but I imagine that they've got the first few months filled already. I'll know more when I get the contract -- that usually says what issue they intend to put it in. What I got last night was an e-mail from the editor saying, "You'll get a contract next week, but I had to ask right now -- do you have any other stories with these characters? If not, are you planning to write any more?" This is my... (counts) eighth publication, but it's the first time I've had an editor actively ask me for more stuff while he accepts a story.

Thanks again, guys. I'll let you know when it comes out -- if nothing else, it'll be me putting my prose where my mouth is when it comes to my fight scene snobbery.
