Coup de gras, as you've written it, would not have an S sound on the end. It's spelled coup de grace.

Chimera anyone?

I always pronounced it "shim-i-ra" (emphasis on the first syllable).

Strictly, I believe it's pronounced "ky-meer-a" (emphasis on the second syllable).

I also had trouble with "awry" up until I was in my mid-20s. I always pronounced it "aw-ree", rather than its correct "a-rye".

Awry got me for a while too. It always left me wondering what they meant, seeing as it wasn't spelled in a manner that I had expected.
