WotC, why don't you just admit it already?

I've read many of what we will definitely expect in 4th Edition and the campaign settings. And it's come to my attention that WotC is trying to hide in the shadows about one specific fact about all these changes. And I wish they had the balls to admit it:

They want to start D&D all over again from scratch.

That's basically it. That's what this is all about. In order to make their precious money, they have to abandon most, if not all, of what had gone before in the past 3 editions. They need to keep "what sells" as opposed to "what's good for gaming and consistency". They need to get rid of the things in D&D that confuse simpletons that try to get into the game, that confuse people who are a afraid to think, improvise, or customize with D&D.

So, WotC, please just admit the fact that you want to just start D&D from scratch. Just admit that 1E, 2E, and 3E are all garbage and 4E is going to be the new, money-making, revolutionary game of all time. Are you afraid of the reaction? You've developed enough hate already, what more can you lose now? Oh yeah, money.

I sincerely wish you give up on D&D one day and hand it over to someone who's willing to make the game the way it was originally supposed to be. A continually enhanced game where everyone can relate on the same level (instead of on FOUR and a half editions worth of different levels) and make the game as mundane or complex as they want to by purchasing your supplemental goodies.

D&D is not a software program...well, it's going to be now thanks to DDI.

So, one of you, just please state "4E is us starting from complete scratch again with everything" and I'm sure we will all just a little bit better about the situation.

They can't say that because the d20 system remains.
They could have said that when they were making 3E though.

Razz,

I can see you have a strong opinion. That is good. However not everything is a conspiracy to make money. WOTC employees love D&D, and almost all of the changes I have seen I would label as good or intriguing , some I may not agree with in the end, but as a whole it looks like they are taking the time to build a unified whole with areas to build on in the future...

When WOTC went from 2nd Edition to third, they threw out a LOT of things, it looks more like tweaks than true dismemberment this time....

Try to be a bit openminded about it as it may actually surprise you.

My recollection is that Wizards of the Coast is only responsible for 2 and a half editions of these changes. Seeing as how I enjoyed playing 3.0 and 3.5 just as much as I enjoyed AD&D and (gasp!) even 2nd edition, I have no real problem with them developing 4e. I hope it will be fun, while fixing some of those things that bugged me (but didn't stop me from playing) in other editions.

Of course for me the rules are just a means to an end - having fun with friends.

Good sir! Are you implying that Wizards of the Coast are, as a company, trying to make money? MADNESS! We all know big business operates on sunshine and happy thoughts and we'll not have you spreading your filthy lies here!

I heard Andy Collins was going to kill a puppy every hour until eveyone converts to 4E. I also heard 4E makes you push old ladies over and not call your mom on her birthday.

Really Raz...what is a game company supposed to do if not make money with their product? Because, you know, they're the ONLY game company to release new editions that have flavor changes. White Wolf NEVER did that with Vampire!

I must shake my head at the silliness of it all.

Which of course would require starting over nearly from scratch and thus be called 5th edition. ;) Ironic no?
