[X3] Kitty Pride cast & more

We know that there are likely to be spinoff X-movies so long as they make the bucks; one focusing on the relationship between Kitty and Peter would be expected.
Yes, we know that a Magneto and a Wolverine movie are both in the works. I most certainly would not expect one about Kitty and Peter.

Not that I wouldn't love to see one, though.

I just don't hope they don't pull a super rush job and botch the whole flick (which is what looks like is happening).

They're just now getting around to nailing down specific roles and they expect this thing to be out in less than a year? Hell, I heard some rumors as late as a few weeks ago that they'd pretty much tossed out the old, X2-rehashing lame-o script and we're rebuilding from there.

This already is a super rush job. It's just a question of how much it'll be botched, IMO.

To be fair, though, X-Men (the original) was going through rewrites throughout the entire shooting process, and even (IIRC) into post-production. I forget how many drafts and writers they had on that thing, and the reports made it sound like the movie was going to be a disaster, but it turned into one of the best superhero flicks (IMO), and generated a fistload of cash.

To be completely fair, though, some of us don't think X-Men is even close to one of the best superhero flicks. ;)

I do hope X3 is at least watchable. I'm not expecting Spiderman 2 good or Batman Begins good, but watchable. So long as I can munch on some popcorn and enjoy the cameos, I'll be a happy camper.

If they try to keep the number of stories in one film down to a minimum, they should be okay. I hate to say this but I'm skeptical about expanding the cast of characters (i.e., more 3-lines-plus speaking roles).

And they should bring back the Brotherhood. It doesn't seem right to have only Magneto and Mystique.

So on the one hand, you want them to keep down the number of additional speaking roles in the next film. And on the other hand, you want them to bring back the entire Brotherhood? :p

I agree with you that one of X-Men's biggest problems is a bloated cast. The problem as I see it is that the producers are more interested in appeasing the fanboys who all want to see their favorite X-Man get a speaking role, than making a good movie. Cyclops didn't even get two lines in X2, and yet they added Nightcrawler to the cast. And for what? So they could show off some more special effects, basically.

Kitty Pryde has always been my favorite X-Man, but I honestly think the franchise would be in much better shape if it cut down the cast, rather than expanding it. Send Storm, Nightcrawler, Iceman, and Rogue off to Genosha to deal with some kind of (offscreen) conflict there, and focus on three or four core characters. Give them the screen time to do them justice and craft a good story, instead of cramming the screen with walk-ons.

But to be honest, I don't see that ever happening. X-Men is a franchise about cramming as many mutants with different powers onto the screen as possible. And since that's the reality of the situation, I'm glad the next X-Man to join the crew is Kitty.

To all the Gambit fans out there: Pffffft! :p

Basically, I want to go back to the first film's story, when it was just the X-Men vs. the Brotherhood.
