Zathura--anyone see it?

This has been a surprisingly quiet little release. Sadly, too quiet; looks like it's only made $25 mil so far, with a modest production budget of $65 mil, it will probably lose money.

But I saw it over the Thanksgiving week with my two older kids, and we all thought it was great fun. Sure, the premise is derivative from Jumanji, but I didn't have a problem with that.

It also had the added benefit of giving me some confidence that Jon Favreau is someone who can do a John Carter of Mars movie some justice.

Anyone else see Zathura? What did you think of it?

Well, it's pretty much a stand-alone sequal to Jumanji, so it's no wonder it's derivative. :)

I don't know how it's in the movie, as I've not seen it, but in the book it's the same
game, they just picked a different playing board from the several available.

One of my coworkers saw it with her kids and said it was quite good. However, we've avoided it since it looks too scary for my little ones (aged 5 and 8). Especially with films like Chicken Little and Curse of the Wererabbit in theaters.

My seven and nine year olds loved it; better than Jumanji even, although the newness may be part of that. And my seven year old daughter frightens pretty easily.

Then again, we also too, them to the new Harry Potter after they begged us and we had previewed it, so YMMV.

"You will be visited by Zargons."

That card doesn't sound so bad. Like they're just coming to visit or something.

:D

Rrrrr... "Thank you for the sssssplended tea. Can you passsss the sssssugar?"

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I'm uncertain what price point I want to pay. :)
