I still don't understand why Linderman wanted to blow up a city. That plan didn't make any sense to me either and Pa Patrelli seemed to be going along with that one. He was even willing to kill off his own son for it. Why? I don't know.

Half of New York is destroyed in an atomic explosion. Obviously some enemy did this, but who? Confusion and terror paralyses the country.

The nation rallies around the one person who can provide clear vision and leadership: Nathan, the young New York senator. Linderman and Arthur rule from the shadows, through Nathan, who would have basically a clear road paved for him to do anything he wanted due to the magnitude of the disaster.

It all comes back to Power, and what men will do to gain it.
