D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

WotC has a new survey asking about what you want from D&D -- "Extra extra! The D&D team wants to know what makes YOU play Dungeons & Dragons! The open world? Character customization? Shared storytelling with friends? Iconic art? Take our survey and help shape the future of what we're working on at Wzards. Please share to help us spread the word and hear from more fans."...

I was pretty annoyed that Tal'Dorei/Exandria was an option for "favorite D&D setting,” but Nentir Vale wasn’t except as a write-in “other.” But I was very pleased that Warlord was available as an option for “favorite Class.”

My guess would be that an Exandria D&D product is in the cards, as is some take on the Warlord, while the Mentor Vale isn't.

Mine too, which is exactly why I was annoyed about the setting opinions and pleased by the class options.

EDIT: Although, given my feelings about Mearls’ take on Nentir Vale, maybe I should be pleased about both.

To be fair, Exandria is basically the Mentor Vale setting.

What.

No, it isn’t. It’s...completely different in every meaningful way. Not a single theme or dynamic in common that isn’t a theme or dynamic of nearly all fantasy settings.

They...are about as similar as Eberron and Dragonlance.

I'm curious about what other people chose as their favorite sourcebooks of all time. I picked the Ravenloft Campaign Setting (red box) but there are at least 2-3 other 2e books that are also huge contenders for me.

I picked the Encyclopedia Magica (so what if it's technically it's 4 books :p)

So many magic items with so much story.

There were some weird questions in there which did worry me a little bit like "Do you create your own PCs?". I mean what the foo-foo excuse me? Do you think my valet creates my PCs for me or something? That's awful - obviously he gets his own character! :)

I make PC's for newer players. The established players make their own of course. How do I decide the difference? When they start handing me characters.

I wasn't going to finish it because no one in their right mind makes a voluntary survey like this. It's too large and only the most dedicated will finish it.

You... really don't have much experience with surveys, do you? You should see some of the social attitude surveys I've worked with. They can be a great wealth of information - but they are fairly long. Really useful for research.
